Hey,

Let's fill up this room with hungry folks and some laundry to wash. An Evite has been created for those who I have talked to or met in the SoCal area. If you would like to attend, please email me and I will add you to the Evite: lbcarguy@aol.com.

See you at the Wash-In!

Mike

Over 12 Loads Done in 4 hours!

The Long Beach wash-in was a great success. As host, it was great to have everyone over. Dave from Lakewood, CA (he lives about 4 miles from me) came to his first wash-in. Peter from Atlanta was here for the first time for a West Coast wash-in. Locals Kevin and Scott were here, along with friends of mine from Great Autos of Yesteryear.

Everyone arrived pretty much on time, at about 4PM. We had laundry going by 5PM. Dave, Kevin, Sanford and Tim all brought their laundry so with my usual weekly 4 loads, we had another 8 loads to do. The washers, jukeboxes, console stereos and Pioneer RT 909 all got a good workout. We even played Guitar Hero for a while.

The food was cooked in the Flair and the Wedgewood Holly, electric and gas both used. Three out of four of the dryers are electric, so the electric meter was spinning like a top for quite a while. No circuits blew and the transformer on the pole survived!

Dinner started around 6. Thanks to everyone for bringing something to share. There was plenty of food for all. We had desert while loads 5-8 were drying, and had a good discussion about washers and collecting while loads 9-12 finished up. Everyone headed out about 9:45PM as the rain was beginning.

Some photos I took follow below. I was pretty busy as the host but others took photos also so they may post theirs soon.

I look forward to doing this again, we all had a great time.

Mike

Tim and I have been friends since we met at a Gay Youth Group in Orange County, CA back in 1982. Long term friendships are rare and very special. This was Tim and his partners first wash-in and they had a great time. Even Tim's soiled bathroom carpet came out squeaky clean!

Dave with the V14 set.

I hope all made it home safe in the rain (here in CA, rain is like black ice in the North East). Hope to see you back at the next wash-in.

had lots of fun! Great machines, great company! There doesn't seem to be other collectors in my area, so consider yourselfs lucky!

In the pic "A study in Kenmore action" your friend in the red shirt looks like he has halo over his head! Is he a Saint? Perhaps Saint Kenmore of the West Coast?

Halo

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words. The "halo" is the reflection of the flourescent light in the window. I noticed that also. Hope you can meet some folks and do a wash-in. I know there are at least a couple folks in Buffalo so maybe you can do one soon. I was born at Kenmore Mercy in Buffalo and lived in Amherst until I was 14.

at ease and happy. And not because you're from Buffalo because I had no clue. I grew up right near Mercy Hospital, the south town version of yours. I finally got a long-awaited sabbatical this semester, and I'm free. My niece just moved to Frisco, so I'm due for a tour which I could plan around your next get together.

Your laundry room is dazzling, and you're always smiling. Are you one of the lucky few who is "Happy for No Reason"?

Jimmy, if I drive which I'd really like to do, I could pick you up, and we could visit whoever would have us like Darrly Frontaloadotomy--just a friendly Friday-night-buzzed thought.

Thanks for the kind words

Matthew, hope you are feeling better! We missed you.

Mickeyd, you are more than welcome to stop by. If you let me know when you plan to come out, we can set up a wash-in with the locals to welcome you. Jimmy had to cancel his trip at the last minute due to a robbery at his home. He did not feel it was wise to leave his house right after that, which makes sense. He hopefully will be out soon.

Of course, thanks goes to Robert for creating and maintaining the site so we can all meet each other.

Mike

looks like fun

When you posted your wash-in, my parnter and I talked about going, but we had a birthday party to attend in Santa Monica. There is no way we could have gotten there because of the rain.
Hopefully we can make the next one. I had fun there in November.
