I have this exact washer, except it's a year or two newer (A-490). The only thing I had to replace in 23 years of ownership is the transmission belt last year (I replaced both belts at the same time) It's a true workhorse! Personally, I think any Maytag made before June of 1986 (old style transmission) should be saved from the crusher. |

Gary, It would fit in nicely between the A108 and the Neptune, kind of like a Maytag timeline (looking at the good and ignoring the, well, you know). |

If there is no oil underneath - and there probably isn't as this was after Maytag added a seal to the bottom of the driveshaft - it would be a good "parts store" to keep your other TOL model(s) running for a long, long time. Especially if the price is good, it's always wise to grab those original, long stroke Maytag parts. And a white tub!! I usually see these with blue/gray tubs so it's worth it for that alone!! |

ANY Maytag Helical drive or Depenable Care models are worth saving. They will eventualy dissapear before our eyes.I always over ride the door switch by splicing the wires. The lst set I had in Florida had the electronic consoles.A customer said the washer had a bad pump.I got them for free, took them home and replaced the frayed pump belt!I sold them to a friend for $500They are still running great after 5 years of daily use.

No, Don't get it and give it to me! That machine is beautiful, my Nanny had one from 76', turq aqitator, golden exterior. That is worth getting, even if you cannot hook it up and use it. |

It's just that we all know a good thing when we see it! and we also know that long, slow strokes are the best.............such as the Maytag PowerFin provides....... |

Sad. So Sad. So many American classics, traditional icons, social customs and ways are going doing the toilet, one by one...... So "Yay" to the benefits and "Boo" to the drawbacks as a result of moving away from traditional classsic/sleek/stylized design and engineering to the "newer" global style/way. Long live the classic look function and arc and for keeping a bit of history going. P.S when I die I want to be be impaled over a classic turquoise agitator in an actual Maytag machine. (Use a newer cork-scew agitator if you need a tighter fit). The sight of that will meet with the classic Greek saying at a funeral "May your memory be eternal" Amen, sistah! |
