I also noticed a sample of TIDE and something else in the tub...I wonder if they were still using phosphates by 1995? My 1991 CR Washer/Dryer/Detergent report tests both phosphate and non-phosphate detergents.

What were the top rated washers in that issue?

Top-rated were the Whirlpool, Kenmore, and KitchenAid DD machines. Boy did CR rave about that Dual-Action agitator back then!!

Why are there so many idiots on EBAY who claim their appliances cost them amounts anybody knows are false? Folks like myself who sold them when they were new for $349 are sick and tired of seeing this on EBAY or in the want ads. That washer never had a built in heater either.

They may have paid $800.00 for it,if they got a matching dryer with it,had to pay for delivery and installation, and then bought a $300.00 service contract with the set.
Laundromat,E Mail him,and ask how that "heater" works!

This is a GE and does appear to be of the original design, but it does not appear to have a filter flo. What's up with that? Is it a BOL model or something?

Does it perhaps have the Hotpoint-style filter ring? I didn't know GE had featured the hidden handwash agitator. Interesting!

In the last year or so of the old design, GE eliminated the Filter-Flo and switched to the self-cleaning filter ring and Handwash agitator, which Hotpoint was using at the time. This was the real death knell for the old design, IMHO. CR gave it a low rating, especially on capacity because the agitator was so large! If memory serves, I think it was actually rated last.

Although the next design, of course, REALLY brought GE downhill in washer and dryer reliability! (LOL) According to CR and others, the reliability of "plastic" machines has gone up in recent years, however, I would NEVER buy one for full-time use. I had enough "plastic GE" washer and dryer experience to sour my interest in current GE laundry products.
