Hi all

Picked up an A3110 last night. Shes dated June 1981.

Gary your beauty now has a twin sister!

She is a poor old lady and is in need of a lot of attention but she does go through a complete cycle. I have made videos and once I have a You Tube account agin I will post them.

Pic for now.

Mark

Have only had chance to see the first vid Mark.
The external condition of the machine looks superb. Was the machine the one that was on ebay recently described as having a dodgy programmer?

Me and Rob also saw an operational A3110 on Sunday (to You Know Who You Are - thanks mate for a great weekend in Cardiff - me and Rob had a fantastic time and will pop down again soon).
A wonderful looking machine from a wonderful series of machines. Had the ebay one been not quite so far away, then I would have snapped it up myself.

Congratulations on a superb new aquisition. Really pleased for you.
All the best.
Paul
p.s will be avidly watching the other vids on Sunday.

Hi Paul.

Thanks.

Yes it is the one that was on eBay with the dodgy programmer. It was only 20 miles away and after lots of thinking and more thinking I couldn't resist! It needs a lot doing to it but as you will see she does go through a complete cycle.
The programmer works but you can't select a programme by using the dial in the usual way as it just turns. It will work if you use a large pair of pliers to turn it.(Difficult to explain but at least I could get her going).

Your washing machine is superb! Congratulations!

I have one old automatic washing machine (French) which had the same trouble with the timer. I put a little bit oil and now it turns perfectly.

It is also possible that the hole in the back of the programmer was broken. But in this case, the button will turn in a vacuum and I do not think this is what happens to you. In any case, congratulations again.

Sorry if your can't understand all my Englesh (I'm French ...)

Great Vids

Hi Mark

Congrats on the lovely machine. Shame like you say it needs so much doing to it. It's the expense as well which can be a pain! Mine has a twisted drum which is pxxxing me off at the moment! I know it's a nightmare to change the suspension but it just doesn't look right.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love your commentary! You sound so natural and relaxed, nothing like me. I get all serious and nervous but I'm a laugh really LOL!

Just a few points. I notice that even with cottons selected the agitation is low in the rinses, what's the difference between the Wool and Cottons progs on these machines? And secondly, is that short 500 spin at the end all the machine does on the short spin program? It's seems like hardly anything!

Take care

Rob x

Mark yah bugger ;-), if your one is the sister to mine then mine is definately the ugly sister!....

Christ it is in lovely condition and it sounds lovely aswell.

And what great vids, much better than mine......really good well done.

The knob problem might just be the selector shaft (the bit with the programme numbers on it) is worn on its base.

I got rid of my Hotpoint 15790 today to some one on freecycle :-(......

I have had flu for over a week now and have not touched the A3190 or been near my garage since i dropped off the new washer last week, other than today to move the Hotpoint

Well done Mark, tell who is Michael 6012 do you know him?

Gary

Hi Bert

Thank you for your comments! Your english was fine and I understood what you had written.

Hey RobM

Ive never attempted to change the suspension so it will be interesting to see how I get on. I do have a suspension repair kit somewhere so thankfully no need to buy that. I also have a rear drum seal so thats good. I attempted to replace a rear drum seal on my own on the A3294 I had but it didn't go well and I got stressed and in a huff and gave up. I scrapped the machine which I now of course totally regret as the machine was in mint condition apart from the rear drum seal needing replacing. You learn from your mistakes so they say.....hmm dosen't bring the machine back though.
I am going to have a friend help me with the 3110 seal etc so hopefully it can be sorted.
Thank you for your comments re my comentary. I never really know what to say or if to try and speak "proper" so I just say what comes into my head without trying to think about it to much because if I do that I always mess it up.I know I sound a bit daft at times but thats me I guess.
Now Rob tut tut! You haven't been paying attention to the videos. On the first and last rinse it does high agitation whilst its filling. On the second rinse (and its the short vid titled part 7-second rinse) it does high agitation in the middle of the rinse which I filmed as when it did the high agitation the suds came back after I was saying the water was really clear..lol.
With regards to difference between the cottons and the wool cycle I can only tell you the differences with the 3060 as I did't put the 3110 on a wool wash. Its only from what I can remember as I very very rarely put the 3060 on a wool wash (even when washing wool I don't tend to use the wool cycle...naughty I know). On the 3060 I think it does low agitation throughout the whole wash.(I think the programmer skips the high agitation parts). Then on the rinses the programmer also skips the high agitation parts and goes straight to low agitation. The interim spins I believe are still present. On final spin it does 500 - 800 then skips 1100 and also skips final tumble. It simply after the 800 clicks round and turns off.
Rob - Not paying attention again!---The short 500 spin is only part of the final spin cycle. It emptys distribute goes upto 500 for 20 or so seconds then stops.turns the pump off and tumbles constantly in clockwise direction for 2 mins then it turns the pump on and distributes then does the 500-800-1100. You may notice though on this machine it goes from 800-1100 very quickly. It dosen't do the usual drop down then back up again. It only drops down for 1-2 seconds.

xx

Hi Gary!

Thanks for your comments. I think your right with the programmer. It isnt much. Thankfully the actual timer is ok.
Cosmetically shes not bad but she does look better in the pic and vids. Thanks for your comment on the vids. I try and think of everything that people would want and incorporate that into the videos. I have always liked to video a machine going through the whole program so I can watch the whole programme again and so people can see what the machine does at each stage of the cycle. Your videos are great though.I wasn't sure if to video mine or not as yours were on but its interesting for everyone to see any differences between how each same model works and sounds etc.
Thats a shame re your 15790 as they are lovely machines.I know whats its like though. I wasn't sure if to get the 3110 or not as I have the previous model so didn't know if I should get it due to space.I would like a Hotpoint front loader but would definately have to get rid of something. Would probably be the Hotpoint twin tub as the top loader is my "automatic twin tub". I had a 15790 and loved it but the agitator seal? went and I have no knowledge on how to replace one so as usual I scrapped it. I wish I could do more on machines but its practice I guess rather than just giving up.
Gary Michael is the guy I got the 3110 from. Hes into washers also and had the 3060 and 3110 in his bedroom! He also has a classica which he has got on eBay. I think if there was a garage on his house then who knows what he would have!
I hope you feel better soon Gary! The flu is such an awful thing to get. Takes ages to actually feel normal again and when its at its worse you feel like your dying.
Im so pleased for you that you got the A3190. I bet you can't wait to start playing with her! Shes a lovely girl and its so great you now have the matching pair. Ive got my vintage Hoover matching pair Ive always wanted and now you have yours...Yay!!!

Sorry for the essay!!!!

That's my childhood machine! I love them, have only watched two of your videos so far, will watch the rest later when I have a spare moment, but even from watching it so far millions of childhood memories have come rushing back! All you need is a Hotpoint 9324 in brown by the side and a box of Fairy Ultra on the top and my childhood will be relived :-D.

That's a great Hoover you've got there, it looks fantastic, even now.

I hope you do a great job of restoring it to it's former glory, the insides at least.

One thing I do love about them is of course it's nice high water levels, I'm glad Hoover has reintroduced them to it's latest Vision models lol. But I like the charm and character of the square-door generation of Hoover's though.

Congratulations on the machine, hope you have a good time using it.

Happy Washing!

Hi Mark

I will consider myself well and truely told off LOL!

To be honest I only watched the best bits as I had to get dinner on the table.

You'll have to let me know how you get on with the suspension change. I won't do mine until the summer, anyway I have to get the parts. I'm just a bit scared I will ruin the whole thing altogether.

Rob

Gary!

Such a very very kind offer. Thank you so much. (Im guessing you mean phone calls etc?)

I will probably take you up on the offer!

By the way guys the pictures really do make her look better than she is. She has the part of fascia behind the soap drawer missing and there is rust on the bottom of the door opening as the door appears not to have shutting properly for ages (Its dropped) and its been scrapping the paint off which has now rusted.

Hoover Backplates..

Hey Guys

Its been a VERY long time since I had one off, but I seem to remember the trick is to do the bolts opposite each other in sequence if that makes sense?- also ALWAYS fit a new backplate seal !

Seamus

Hey Seamus!

Don't worry thats why the backplate has to come off. The seal is knackered. Its dripping water from various places. Im just hoping the detergent hasn't corroded the plate too much so the new seal will work ok.

Thanks very much for your tip!

Very good videos there. I really like hoover machines. I have had a Hoover Keymatic 3224, but sadly it totally broke. I wished i had it still. Your machine is really cool there.

I enjoy your commentary in the videos.
