That sounds like an Imperial or Custom Imperial FRIGIDAIRE Dishmobile. The front of the lid was angled lower than the back to make it easier to load and unload dishes and flatware into and out of the lower rack. The lid had armitures on it to raise the front of the upper rack upward to give full access to the lower rack. They had what was known then as Super-Surge washing action.7 levels of hot rapidly forced jet sprays that (if you hit the sanitize button)would heat the wash and final rinse water to either 150 or 160 degrees Ferenheit. It also had 7 pushbuttons for cycle selection and to cancel and drain, and lited squares that said wash, sani or 150 or 160(depending on whether it was a FRIGIDAIRE or Montgomery Ward Signature made by FRIGIDAIRE),rinse, and dry.I had the convertible version of it that was front loading. It was not as nice and its inner door frame consistantly warped and needed replacement. As far as the performance was otherwise,it rocked! It also had the 7 bladed, stainless steel pulverizer that was pretty good at grinding up the food particles. The wash arm had a seperate wash arm attached to one side of it that would revolve on its own as the arm it was on revolved. Both would spray torrents of hot water onto the dishes, pots and pans, flatware and utensels. It also had a tower connected to the center of the sprayarm with perferations on all sides as well as the top. That would spray strong jets up to the top and out through the sides to get dishes and glassware clean and rinsed thoroughly. To this day, I can still remember the pattern of the sprays I could hear as the cycle continued.I only wish they'd made it with a see through door or lid!I also remember the advancing of the timer as the cycle progressed or when I would hit cancel and drain.

That sounds a lot like our first dishwasher

It was a portable (top loading with butcher block top) that Dad converted to a stationary machine. All push buttons except for the knob you pushed to open it and turned to lock it shut. Made a lot of clicking and chirping sounds, especially when you hit the 'cancel/drain' button. very neat machine - we gave it to friends who never installed it when we remodeled the kitchen in '72 and got a Roper built in with lots of lights on the front. I remember getting a chair and watching the Roper go thru its first load so I could watch the lights change - I was 8 or so!

There is some pics of this dishwasher somewhere on this site in the Archive's I have seen them.Well not Pics but a whole bunch of brochures my Mamaw had the same Dishwasher for YEARS and I rember everything about it still.I thought that little wash arm attached to the big one was SO cool. That washer could wash very good and it lasted 21 years they bought another FRIGIDAIRE but it was a D&m version. My Sister just got a Smeg dishwasher that has the same type of wash arms in it well kinda the call it the orbital wash system .I like the machine but it can't hold a candle to my old Kitchenaid and the Filters drive me nuts. Now days I wouldnt touch a Frigidaire with a ten foot pole they cant wash with that little 70 Watt motor in them.Thats why they haved to switch racks there is just no power.

I have a newer model "Pro series"It just took another shit on me.Now the lower spray arm shaped like the supports on the old Radiantube burner supports in an even three arm setting,is dissengaging from the base making a horrendous noise as it rotates unevenly pivited on it's base. The repairman is coming out tuesday. The first problem was the recirculating motor burning out. They had to replace it with a new one. When it works though,It does get my dishes real clean but I really liked my GE Tritons much better!
