Hey Guys

Well, another caller and another vintage machine is mine if i want it!

This is a early 1960's Malley's Whirlpool. It has the "Magic Clean Filter" as far as i can tell and the black surgilator agitator. I don't have an interior pic at this stage. The owner had it working only a few days ago.

Considering taking a drive over Easter to pick it up.

Cheers
Leon

Hey Nathan

I love it! So retro!

And unfortunately....it's on the NSW / Victorian border. So, its either freight it up with the Simpson or go down for a drive.

Leon

Wow, that one should clean-up pretty well. Hope you are able to snatch it up!

Wow, that control panel style is definitely 1957 1958 style in the U.S. And BTW, that is called the Magic Mix Filter, not Magic Clean.

Malleys

What is the significance of the Malley's name?

Malleys

Malleys was an Australian company, that started out at the turn of the 19 Century making Milk cans and the such.

They invented the Esky cooler in the Mid 1950's, a brand which still lives on today.

They manufactured BD Whirlpools under license from about 1959, to 1980 when the company was bought by Email, who also owned Simpson and Westinghouse. The Whirlpool Brand then died in Australia until 1992, when Whirlpool US started importing and distributing DD drive machines. From all accounts the quality control on the last machines made in 1979 and 1980 was very very bad. There had been no real updates to the control panel style since 1975, just a few colour changes.

Prior to the Manufacture of the BD Whirlpool, Malleys made a Horizontal Axis TL machine called the Malleys Automatic 12. It was in production from 1952 until 1964 and appears to have been a uniquely Australian design.

The company ceased to exist after 1980 and there is very little corporate information available about it.
