We recently replaced our 1971 Waste-King dishwasher with a more energy- and water-efficient model. I'd REALLY like to see the Waste-King go to someone who'd appreciate it instead of the dump, but I also don't want it sitting on my porch forever :-). We're in the San Bernardino area in Southern California.

The dishwasher worked, but had some minor problems: the seals were going, one of the door hinges is broken, and some of the tines on the racks are gone, but other than that it was still doing a good job. I have more photos if anyone wants to see them.

I also have the original user's manual and installation instructions, plus a box with what looks like another set of sprayer arms. If I do end up having to toss the machine, I'll probably put the paperwork on eBay.

Please email me at ljw-washer@silver-gateway.com if you want more info. I don't know how often I'll be checking the boards.

Nice dishwasher. We had a portable 1981 Thermadore for 21 years. I hope someone grabs it and gives it a good home.

Good Luck,
James

Another photo

I also posted a thread about my so-far futile attempt to find someone who'll admit to having made this, so I can tell them they did good :-).

Why get rid of it?

I admire your desire to be more environmentally friendly by considering a more "energy efficient" Dishwasher, but if I were you, I would definitely keep this machine where it is. You can always update the panels and there isn't a machine on the market that will clean as well as this one does with only having to put the dishes in once!

What good is an "energy efficient" machine if you have to wash the dishes twice or have it run for hours on end?
If you feel compelled to update the look of the kitchen, the new machines are really nicer looking now but do that and hook this tank up in the garage or basement as your spare or overflow machine. We have one in our garage for all the pots and pans and oddball plastic bowls and such and it truly comes in handy when you have lots of stuff to wash.

And one more thing, I see some brown staining from the iron in your water and lime buildup on the machine.. If you can get some Oxalic acid, and run it thru a main wash cycle, the rust should disappear and it will even take out some of the lime buildup as well.Use of chlorinated detergents precipitates the iron out of the hot water and it will cause the brown stains.
Hope that helps.
