thinking of buying used maytag A9800 washer. Has orbital transmission and in good condition. Approx 10 years old.
What do you think ? Buy or pass on it ??

That looks to me like a TOL machine.

Seems like a good buy to me. How much does he want for it?

Yes top loader. Went ahead and bought it. Paid $100 total for both washer and matching dryer. They both work and look sharp.
Dont see any leaking and sound good.
A lot less money than repairing my old or buying brand new.
Been reading and learning bunches from this website. Really wonderful. Very kind and helpful appliance-heads. I got lucky to find this website :)

Maytag A 9800

You have a good machine and good deal. They are out there and the more you are educated the better choices we can make as a consumer. The big advantage to Maytag is they are front service to you can get a easy visual when the phenomena occurs.
Just remove the 2 screws at the front panel and pull out toward you the top clips disengage and you can see the internals.
Good Luck.

A neat thing about the orbital transmission is that it can be serviced without removing it from the machine. Just lay the machine on it's side and you can take the top half off the tranny. But it's easier said than done.

The 2 (clogged looking) Screens

Hi Dave

Those two screens are the "Self cleaning" lint filters. These were added when Maytag dispensed with the pull out lint filter in the agitator post.

More than likely to save cost.

Cheers
Leon
