Well, the Franklin transmission lives on in my TL Frigidaire. Unfortunately, the machine's agitator isn't up to the task of efficiently turning over a load in its large tub. Part of the reason I bought the Frigidaire was to have that old school transmission, knowing that, eventually, they'll be phased out. The company can't continue to lower the maximum water level in order to meet water/energy federal mandates forever! I know two people locally with Frigidaires from the late 80s-early 90s and they're daily drivers. Maybe mine will last that long, too. I had an '87 Frigidaire for about a year and it was already to the point where it wouldn't start spinning until almost half the water had drained. At the time, I blamed the transmission; maybe it was a loose belt issue or something. |
