Hi All,

Does anyone have a listing or know who's what/what's who of the washer world these days? I know Whirlpool owns Maytag now and Maytag and Amana used to be the same. And Kenmore and Whirlpool, and Gibson/White Westinghouse. What brought this up? I was looking at Samsungs website and noticed a recall on washers and it said "Samsung and Maytag..." Samsung and Maytag are the same??!! So I thought "who makes what these days?"

Thanks! Laurent

It's a worldwide market/manufacturing environment nowadays. A particular manufacturer's product may be labeled for sale under multiple brand names, with cosmetic and minor feature changes to differentiate them. Some brand names are only branding, such as Kenmore, which sources various product lines (ranges, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, room air conditioners, dishwashers, small kichen appliances, etc.) from different manufacturers. Even different models of the same class of product, such as frontload washers, may be from different manufacturers.

Yes like Top-Loading Kenmore washers, dryers and dishwashers are made by Whirlpool.

Maytag slaps its name on Samsungs and (in Europe) on Askos.

GE's top-loading compact/portable W&D are rebadged Whirlpools.

Frigidaire was the actual maker of early Kenmore, and GE front-loaders.

...and the list goes on and on.

I actually saw a Frigidaire gas stove with a White-Westinghoue badge. And even though I know it's the same decent thing and quality level, that name is just bad news to me. I should know better.

I got my mother to buy a Roper badged Whirlpool refrigerator for her tenants. Same engineering, quality and dependability but less frilly, less cost.

A few corrections. Candy doesn't belong to Electrolux, but is an independent company that owns the brands Candy, Hoover, Rosières, Vyatka, Zerowatt, Iberna and Jinling.

The Indesit company is also independent, it's brands are Indesit, Hotpoint-Ariston and Scholtès.

Here's a link to the corporate Electrolux site with an overview of their local brands.

As Candlebox put it so eloquently, "Left you far behind." As far as I'm concerned, Maytag sucked for too many years before Whirlpool put them out of thier misery.

did any of you read the dishwasher section on that site Laundress posted. They're non too fond of your vintage machines. And they're pro-longer wash cycles.

From the above linked by Moi site:

"In dishwasher culture as many of you know, there can be only one person per household, the Dish Master, who can operate the dishwasher. This Dish Master must learn the ways of the dishwasher, gain the respect of the dishwasher. When others attempt to load the dishwasher, the Dish Master must respond by sneering at and ridiculing said trespasser for his or her dishwasher incompetence. Passive-Aggressors need not apply. The Dish Master, once chosen will be responsible for dish loading until he or she dies. Though maybe this is just my family."

How so TRUE!

I am the ......

DishMaster in my house, and my partner's and my sister's.....and anyone else who wants to shut me up about the horrible way they load their machine...and don't even get me started about the absolute need NOT to pre-wash...

I absolutely agree with you on not pre-washing! I believe Consumer Reports (sorry guys and gals but I like 'em!) said that it was one of the largest wastes of water per year in America!

Foraloysius;

Electrolux owns much more than shown on it's website.
I know it's "dark side" because i worked more than 10 years there and had a position with access to many global strategy information.

For example, in Brazil they started buying "Prosdocimo" almost 5 years before it's "marriage" Electrolux-Prosdocimo and it's "divorce". (when the name Prosdocimo just dissapeared overnight).

many other brands are under this operation right now. it's very simple: Electrolux Group creates some different "new" small companies to buy some shares at normal price. When they have enough quotes for voting, they insert fake workers to do everything they can to decrease product's reliability. the company looses "rivers" of money with recalls and sales fiasks. Electrolux comes and offers some "tehnical help" to stop the bleeding (but for that, the company must marry and accept the Electrolux's logo on it's products) things go worse, then Electrolux can pay much less for the other quotes.
As Electrolux is a reliable and traditional brand, consumers start to trust the products again.
As there are nothing "technically illicit", so lawyers and governments nothing can do after the bomb explodes.

at this moment there are two big american companies under this process, and the original owners don't even think about it.

Just try to see which brands had a massive loss of quality and you'll know who's the next "Electrolux-something".

Electrolux is just playing a mix of Monopoly and Poker.

Do you know exactly which companies are "The Electrolux Group"? well, well... Nobody in this world knows.

The next one (worldwide giant) to be killed by Electrolux is an electronics company, famous for it's excellent cordless phones and fax machines. process started in 1996 and will end in 2011 or 2012. a very slow process.

Kenmore Elite

jons1077's profile picture
the models I bought for the condo are as follows:

dishwasher - whirlpool
washer/dryer - whirlpool
microwave - whirlpool
disposer - in-sinkerator
range - frigidaire
fridge - whirlpool

I've noticed that it's just certain brands rebadged with certain names. Different models of one line can be made by different manufacturers. I think Kenmore dishwashers were made by Whirlpool, Frigidaire, and Bosch. I bought the TOL range made by Frigidaire. Had I bought one model lower it would have been a Whirlpool. It really is like drawing a name out of a hat now.

The important thing is profit.

Do I need to say something else?

Thomas,

My main point was that Candy doesn't belong to Electrolux.

The overview in my link show only the European brands I guess.
