I'm thinking it's a White Westinghouse Frigidaire.

WCI machine. Look at the funky design thing on the front. I never saw a 1-18 with that on it. They used a similar design on the console to the 1-18 for the first few years.

It's deffinatly not the real 1/18
It's the fake - I can tell by the lid and the bottom front panel.

Saw one of these behind Blowes a few years back - looked exactly like a WC-6. You are right about the lid Pete - the finger grip is closer to the front of the machine than a regular 1-18. I always thought the agitator on these early WCI machines were kinda cool with the big 'F' on top of the agitator.

Thats exactly what WCI did to Frigidaire give it the big F
The most Disastrous chain of events ever in the whole appliance industry.

Yeah, the front access panel gives it away. A dreaded WCI.

The big F

roto204's profile picture
Well, it's still 'F'un, even so! :-)

I liked my faux 1-18...too bad it was, like any Westinghouse toploader, absolutely impossible to work on!

Tee-hee!

This had to be a disappointment if you had a pulsator 1-18 before...but it still had the classic good looks!

This one has the dead-giveaway Westinghouse cabinet and lid. If you set it next to a GM 1-18, the cabinet was almost half a foot shorter from front to back!

The machine in the ad seems to be a Horizon 2000 model, if I recall. Still had the angled control-panel, but had the all-plastic innards we grew to know and love from WCI.

They had many different agitators; most notably the four short-vane agi that didn't do diddly.

My main complaint with these (my Kelvinator was similar) was that they stored too much water in the recirculation system for the lint filter due to the prominent coin trap under the tub, and when they started the rinse, the first three seconds of water flow from the lint filter were creamy white.

Ick.

Another Factor to tell

The name plate on the front is minus GM. I remember these as a kid, right after they sold out. Another big industry upset in my book was the sellout of Maytag. Sad Sad Sad.

Horizon 2000

I purchased a Horizon 2000 in 1992, top of the line. It washed very well, it had the halo rinse. It was noisy. I had to pull the agitator off every month to clean the lint out of the filter underneath. The matching dryer was very cheap, the timer went out in the first 6 mos. It was under warranty. I guess that is why you dont see many Frigidaires from 90 to the model change after that.

I realize the disappointment in it not being a GM Frigidaire, but I think it would be cool to have a 'vintage' WCI.

False 1/18

It's beyond being a disappointment to me it's sickening. But if it would make you happy you take one.
