I don't believe I've ever heard of Kitchen Aid laundry appliances before! Anyone know when these are from? =)

Just a fancy Whirlpool, nothing special. Whirlpool bought out Kitchen-Aid in the late 80's and began churning out washers/dryers under the KA name.

Just think how durable and effective washers/dryers would have been if Hobart designed them. Would have probably given Maytag a hell of a run for their money!

If this is close to you, and they are in good shape, I would say go get them.
There are not many of these Rapid Advanced timer KitcheAids left. It will be a rare machine for the future.
They are good machines. I think that the dryer is an awesome dryer for being a fast, accurate dryer.

Actually, the KitchenAid branded laundry products of this era were quite a leap in quality above the average DD Whirlpool or "Sunday Ad" Kenmores. The cabinets were galvanized (like Maytag's) for rust protection, the top and lid were a heavier, all porcelain construction on the washer AND dryer. The dryers used a six-rib belt that will almost never wear out or break, bronze, commercial-grade bearings for the rollers and motor bearings (Gold-Seal) and came backed with a five-year warranty. The washers of later years came with over-sized agitators and three speed motors. The larger agitator gave a much more powerful wash action at slower (medium) speed than the smaller, faster stroke of the WP & KM washers. Sound insulation made a noticeable difference.

I have these rapid-advance machines and although it's probably one of the best all around dryers ever made, the washer controls aren't the most flexible - as is with most pre-programed timer machines. If they would have added a cycle button for "2nd Rinse", either optional with a full cycle or an independent cycle, it would be a lot easier. The longest wash time you can get is eight minutes of high agitation (not counting pre-wash) so for very dirty loads, you have to cancel and start the cycle over again. This model did not have a three-speed motor so it had the smaller agitator and fast-stroke action.

The electronic TOL Whirlpool set we have were also available with the KitchenAid name on them too. The price was the same, just a matter of what brand name you wanted on them.
