I don't Suppose anyone would have any pcitures of the old snowcap front load washers, they had a really plain but unique look about them, snowcap mainly made fridges but in the 90's they began producting washers and stoped soon after.

I think they were re-badged Antonio Merloni machines i.e. Servis.

There were a few 'distributor brands' in Ireland, particularly during the 1970s and 80s which sold re-badged machines. They were just owned by the appliance wholesale companies who had a big enough market to be able to order own brand machines.

Main ones were:

Thor - (Rebadged Colston and later Ariston machines) no idea where they went! They had a very high profile range of washer dryers in the late 1970s / early 80s e.g. the Thor 850XD which was a Coleston/Ariston elsewhere. Our particular 850XD had a second label on the back saying "Riber Italia" (Never heard of them, but perhaps they were absorbed into Ariston)

I've recently seen the Thor name on really bottom of the line dishwashers, washers and dryers sold in a DIY chain here. They looked cheap and nasty.

Domotec -
They re-badged machines from various manufacturers under the names "Novum" and "Domotec". They now seem to target really cheap landlords. I haven't seen any of their products outside low quality budget rental acomodation.
They distribute some BOL indesit and fagor stuff too.

Powerpoint:
Again, a re-badging operation. It sources from the likes of Antonio Merloni, but also others. Again, they're budget appliances often with very basic features and plain design.

In the 1980s, there were others like Snowcap etc. ESB (The Electricity Supply Board) had a retail arm in those days and it also engaged in generic rebadging. However, in general their appliances were quite mid to high end. They had their own 1980s Hotpoint machines, I can't remember under what name though. It was more like the way John Louis in the UK sells its own electrolux machines.

From what I gather Washmeister was also a re-badging operation. They were usually Siemens / BSH machines and date mostly from the 1970s/80s. Some of them may have been baucknecht too.

In more recent years, those kinds of re-badging companies have all but vanished.

ESB rebadges

Hi MRX

The ESB rebadged the Servis Supertwin in the 1970s as the ESB Multiwash, not sure what else they did at the time. They didn't stock Hotpoint from the late 70s through to the mid 80s - probably because they couldn't get good discount deals. In the late 70s early 80s they sold Electra re-badges (Hoover Front-loaders and Hotpoint twin-tubs) - these were sold by UK electricity supply board shops too (under the Shop Electric brand in both countries).

The Thor brand exists in the US - selling what look like (you guessed it) older Indesit or Antonio Merloni washers.

Do you remember Novum washers - lots of people in Ireland had Novum chest freezers, but I can just recall old Novum twin-tubs from the 1970s, which looked like Rolls/Colston machines - would love to see a pic of one if any survive...
