Friday I made another trip back up the Wytheville,VA to the warehouse of Mark (lightedcontrols) to pick up the matching dryer to my
Poppy Red Frigidaire 1-18 Washer.
The two were purchased new as a set and after a few months apart, are reunited again, and in beautiful condition. Here are the photos...

That was a very well designed

dryer! I love the 1-18 dryers.

Nice, large opening, good lint filter in a great location.....

Thanks for posting.

My Aunt had the exact same poppy set only without the window.
She even had the basment wall painted poppy to match. This brings back so many wonderful memories.

Awesome dryer! So much room! Lovely set, I had a '74 set in coppertone, but traded for a '64 Norge set in white. Love Norge, but miss those 1-18s!

That is FANTASTIC! Red is my favourite colour and red would be my choice if I were to buy something so vintage :) Complimenti ;) on your reunion!

That dryer looks like its new. Was it ever used? The drum has no signs of wear that I can see in the pics. Someday I will get a 1-18 dryer. I have never used one but I hear that they are good performers.

Thanks guys for the congratulations. I feel very fortunate to have such a fine set that has always been together no less... To answer the question above, the dryer and washer both were taken good care of. While there are small cosmetic imperfections that would be expected after all these years it seems with both machines that they never were opened or required any service. The combination of the two machines together is an impressive performance. Sheets are dry in 20 minutes, and a full load in 50.

Great set.

I'm glad you got the timer back together and working on the washer.

Being a gold crown, does it have the extra solenoid and pulley for an extra speed? I don't recall if that was just for the Jet cones or also for the 1-18s.

How is the sound adsorbtion egg crate foam working out?

The 1-18 dryer was the best I have ever used. The auto-dry is perfect, the large drum leaves everything fluffy and nothing is ever tangled. Congrats!

As far as I know none of the 1-18's ever had an extra solenoid. What it does have however is a two speed motor and a dial on the control panel for "Gentle Wash/Spin" and "Normal Wash/Spin" The Deep Action Agitator, Direct drive rollermatics were the ones to employ the solenoid that engaged a high speed spin roller, they were refered to as Rapid Dry Models, and had a max spin speed of 1010 rpm. The standard rollermatic was a 710 spin speed. I believe this is also true in the 1-18 "Jet Cone" model except that low speed 330 rpm and of course it is a belt-drive setup.

This is working out very well, it should be noted for anyone wanting to do this that you should apply the sound absorbing material only to the lower portion of the front panel (below the seam in the metal) application in any other area can interfere with the tub moving about during spin and will create undesired vibration and noise with all the rest of the metal cabinet.

There is one jewel of a 1-18 out there in this color that Mark was telling me another club member has that is all push buttons, and a load of washing combinations. I think it is probably the only one of it's kind around. I think a picture of it exists somewhere here in the AW archives.
