Well I had the Cabrio washer and dryer for 9 days and well I am not impressed at all. The washer has locked and it will not come unlocked, so i have a service call into Whirlpool to come fix it. I have to wait until Friday to get it changed out for a "loaner" while they send the Cabrio out for service. One thing I learned from all of this is Sears Service Sucks, the PM that they offer is horrible and will do everything possible to avoid honoring it. Although the Whirlpool Customer service people are very nice im just frustrated that I paid so much for this washer and after 9 days its messed up. WTF come on. So Im stuck with a washer that does nothing until Friday and I have to keep washing the same load so it doesnt get yucky. So my opinion DO NOT BUY THE CABRIO im working with Sears to exchange it for a Duet (after of course its fixed) We will see..Stupid Technology...I need an old Maytag....

You should see the video on how to take the Cabrio apart. The construction is very simple and the parts are more integrated than the calypso, talk about total crap! Do a google search for "fixitnow cabrio" it should be the third link on the page. Download and watch the video, you'll see what i'm talking about.

Mike, were you trying to bypass the lid switch when the locking problem happened?

mgwhirlcollect, what's crap about it?

The Cabrio is not related to or based on the Calypso, so comparing them is not valid. Cabrio is based on F&P's toploader design, and the main drive motor is identical to F&P. Whirlpool uses separate pumps for recirculate and drain vs. F&P using one pump with a divertor valve.

I think you're making the right move getting a Duet. Frontloaders are great, and the Duets seem to be reliable and clean clothes very well. Sorry you're having to deal with service problems in the meantime, though.

Let us know how everything turns out, OK?

The only problem I had with my Duets was their depth.Like their stacked top loading washer dryer(full size 27" width)they are DEEP!

OK DADoES I'll tell you what's crap about it...
Based in the video the stator of the drive motor appears to be plastic. Two separate pumps creates another point of failure. The main control board appears to be enclosed in some sort of housing, in which I would not be surprised if it was held together by special security screws. I have never seen the inside of a F&P machine. My point is, based upon seeing the video, I don't justify spending $900 to $1400 on a washing machine that is made mostly out of plastic and uses simply constructed, but yet expensive parts.
