Good things are not only found in (the state of) Connecticut.
Took GadgetGary of a tour of "the 'hood", where I took him to an old haunt of mine............

Yup Astoria Queens, New York City.

The Gasget and I spotted this toy at the same time and made a beeline (sp?) for it.

"AS-IS"
$19.99
Blue tag.

Well a huge sign said blue tags were 50% off that day.

The excitement level was building!

It sure was "purty" on the inside; and based on two water hoses and a power cord, we were on the right track!

(The grey hose is a replacement hose, but you get the idea.)

Post# 286597 , Reply# 4   6/22/2008 at 20:03 (5,785 days old) by toggleswitch2 ()

The original hose has the end broken off, so we had surmised this was the reason why this appliance was kicked to the curb.

(Threaded end screws to water-inlet valve of machine).

We took this piece of blue, dark, rigid plastic off the door, only to reveal a better view of the water-works inside!

And it's designer, no less!

Yes it is a DANBY brand coutertop dishwasher!

I mean WHO could resist at $20, being 8.33% of the MSRP of $240! Then take half off of the $20!

There is even a rinse-aid dispenser with a large reservoir.

Controls

Pre-wash is a "Rinse & Hold" does not advance into cycle/programme.

W-W-R-R is the "Normal" cycle.
W-R-R is the "Short" cycle.

First wash is heated when "Sani-wash" is engaged; not heated in "Econo". The final rinse is heated always to help the drying process.

Maiden load.

All we needed was to replace the fill hose with a washing machine hose. The uni-coupler had broken and did not come with it.

Loading her takes a few attempts to get the hang of it!

The silverware basket was missing too!

No weiners for sale at that location. It is a SOUVLAKI Cart....and I am unanimous in that! Bsically a portable charcoal grill cart that sells shish-kebabs on a bamboo stick over pita bread with shredded lettuce and tomato and a white tzatziki/talatouri sauce.

Souvla - grill.
-aki diminutive meaning, small, cute, junior etc. (i.e. small grilled foods).

toggles - souvlaki

Hi Toggleswitch

I am interested that you had to explain the meaning of souvlaki - are they not commonly known in USA? They are everywhere in Melbourne, AU.

During the waves of Greek immigration to AU in the 50s, 60s and 70s, many Fish and Chip shops (previously English or Aussie owned) were taken over by Greeks. As well as being fantastic with fish, many added "new" items to the menu including souvlaki. ( I had no idea the word souvlaki referred to the grill, I thought it was just the food.) Now every Fish and Chippy in the country, Greek owned or not, sells souvlaki, usually lamb but sometimes chicken is an option. Usual is lamb, garlic/yoghurt sauce (not tzatziki), lettuce, tomato, onion, wrapped in a pita. Delish!!!

I'm not sure if it is true, but I often heard when I was growing up in suburban Melbourne that Melb had the second-biggest Greek population in the world, only Athens had more Greek people in one city.

Chris.

I've got a slightly later version of that same machine here at work. Its hooked only to a cold water supply, but with the Sani wash on, it heats the water like crazy. Its been working for us here in the office for almost 2 years now, and its an excellent machine.

Post# 286813 , Reply# 48   6/23/2008 at 15:10 (5,785 days old) by toggleswitch2 ()

Yoghurt sauce IS tzatziki sauce. Yoghurt (or sour cream) garlic, cucumber maybe a drop of lemon juice. Somne add some green stuff; parsley, oregano (which is wild marjoram, BTW) or basil I think.

~Melbourne had the second-biggest Greek population in the world, only Athens had more Greek people in one city.
Funny I heard it was Astoria Queens, NYC. Lots in Germany too.

Methinks the cosmopoilitan areas have a clue. The middle of this country that beleives green vegetables are a foreign food , however.............. :-)

Greece, Puerto Rico, Croatia and I think Poland have more of their people out of the country than in it!

Take me HAIER baby!

OK it must be small dishwasher week!

Here is a portable unit I saw while inspecting a building.

Those floor tiles appear to be one foot square in size to me (12 inches x 12 inches).

The machine is labeled "18" -

Probably for 18 inches wide (45cm). Traditionally, 18 inch wide machines are 24 inches deep (60cm). This one appears to be less in depth.

My guess would have been 21" square, but hey,the evidence speaks otherwise! Sorry didn't get a money shot!

tzatziki

so Toggles,

If it is just yoghurt and garlic (no lemon, no cucumber) is it still tzatziki?

In the shops they just call it "yoghurt sauce".

Chris.

Great find - and a "bahhhhgin dahhhhhling" price too! Mine wasn't such a bargain, but what a fun machine it is. I used it a lot when we were kitchening in the basement last winter. It really does a fantastic job - the heat does a wonderful job at restoring Centura and Corning Ware estate sale finds quickly.

Post# 286939 , Reply# 53   6/24/2008 at 06:31 (5,784 days old) by toggleswitch2 ()

Hi Greg- It does do a great job! It went to Conecticut with Gadget. He "needs" a pot washer! *LOL*. It will sit on the avoocado green Maytag portable dryer. In exchange I get to snatch a "spare" classic KitchenAid DW from his house for my new apartment. Will build a cabinet with casters/wheels to make it portable.

Hi Randy- (Sorry Brits, that is his name). Yup that linkie does look like my machine!

Hi Chris- Is a meatloaf without salt, mushrooms and tomato sauce still a meatloaf. I'd say YES! Even my mother has a good laugh when that sauce is leaking/dripping off my chin! I just love when she says "skoupisou" [wipe yourself!] and chuckles. She absolutley refuses to say flat-out WHY she is chuckling! :-)

Souvlaki is discernable chunks of meat. I try not to eat the gyro too often; it's mystery-meat that has been processed to hell! (vertical-spit rotisseried).

Unicoupler

Ordered the part from Danby. The inlet and dishcharge hoses screw on to the unicoupler, and are sold as separate pieces.

The quick connect assembly is $2.11.
The intlet hose is $3.97.
The drain hose is $3.21.

Isn't a rewarding feeling fixing something like that for just a few dollars. lots of people just don't know where to order parts from, and if they had the parts may have no idean how to repair something.
