I was feeling kinda down after discovering that the washer/dryer thermostat needs to be replaced and then that the timer motor for this machine is also dead, so I tried to console myself by working on the dishwasher.
Despite the gnawed wires ($@#* mice!), I bravely hooked up the motor and it ran beautifully! So did the pump motor, so I decided to go for it and test the timer. This one still runs fine! Check out the plastic insert on the dial; there is a light underneath to light it up as the dial moves from red (prewash and wash) to yellow (final rinses) to green (drying). I have never seen anything like that before. I just hope I can find a replacement light - the wires were so brittle that they dissolved when I removed it.
So, there is hope for my restoration yet!

Good that the dishwasher is mostly all systems go. I bet you
will be able to find a bulb that works. Are you going to try it with water soon?

Sure am. I would like to change the drain hose, first, though. It's pretty cracked... I was also hoping I'll have the time to get a piece of plexiglass to pop over the top to get some live action shots.

Hey Paul, thanks for the scans you emailed me. I still have one of these dishwashers, with the color wheel dial....GE sure thought of some neat designs........ BTW are you using your GE wall refrigerator yet? I currently have two, one mounted and running and the other in storage for some future use.......

Eddie -
Yep, this is the dishwasher that is part of the infamous Texas set. Never used in 50-some years - can you believe it??

Glad you liked the scans! I haven't gotten the fridge installed yet (haven't even been able to get near it to plug it in!) but if all goes well, I'm going to have the kitchen done by fall.

Chris -
Thanks for the encouragement - it sure can be a trying process sometimes! My goal for this week is to finish up the dishwasher wiring and do a test with water; but I still have to test the range surface units, too. If you read about a major blackout in Southeastern Quebec or Vermont, that would mean that my wiring skills are not as good as I thought!!

When this is done, I plan on building a slide show of the restoration; I already have two cool 1956 tunes picked out as the background music! I am also planning on holding a "debut" party when the kitchen is done - stay tuned!!
