I'm currently cleaning up the '68 (for the most part the underside is really clean and just needed a good vacuuming; manifold trap also needs cleaning...OY), and I notice that the belt is a smaller width than the belt the '82 uses (and the one I have). It's in good shape but I don't think it would be a bad idea to replace it. Being a V-belt type as well, will the larger belt work on this one?

It may be a "QuietPack" belt. I recall hearing/reading somewhere that style was used on the first 18lb machines.

Austin,

You would have to change all the pulleys that the belts goes around in order to use the 95405 belt. The skinny belt is a 96388 I beleive. It was part of the "quiet pak" construction from the late 60's and early 70's and then went away. I don't think it "grabbed" as well as the cogged 95405 belt. I have some if you want one.

Update

After cleaning the manifold trap & water valve, as well as removing the lint filter & housing for a little ride in the Bosch, I decided to plug 'er in. The timer advances perfectly, and both water valve solenoids work. Ran it on spin for a few minutes and the wig-wag, basket drive/brake, and mercury switch function normally, although it vibrates much more than my '82 in both noise and feel. Not sure if there's anything wrong here; when I move the belt by hand everything seems fine. I do need to sand and paint over the rust on the spin basket post and clean the agitator before I put water in it...might need to do more before it can be declared "seaworthy" though.

Even though this machine isn't a high-end model, to my surprise it still has the agitate/fill cooldown on the PP cycle!!!! Just that much more excitement on the maiden wash!
