Hi All,
FIRST OF ALL A HUGE THANKS TO BEN (SWESTOYZ) FOR THIS MACHINE!! A center dial tag was the machine I had growing up, and it was got me into washing machines in the first place... Watching the machine literally makes me feel like i'm five years old all over agian. Me and ben met up at Don's house in coon rapids and we had a great time, it was a lot of fun. It was great checking out Don's collection (which was amazing btw!). The machine didn't need much work, except a thorough bath. So without further ado, I introduce the 806...

Don was nice enough to give me this hoover twin tub, which sits next to the maytag

Before I took the front cabinet off, I tried to "flush" the bleach dispenser... wondered why it went all over... Simple, the hose wasn't connected.

I had one house inlet actually hooked up (cold), I had to hook up another "fill" house to the hot inlet to keep water from leaking...

I have to say the gold Maytag cleaned up VERY nice... look at that chrome shine!

Here's the model number (know already?) (H)A806 and the SERIAL # 761986

Using that info and the pictures, I am asking anyone with knowledge of Maytag's to post or email any brochures, service manuals, or owner's manuals and could someone tell me what time exactly this baby rolled out of Newton, and the model year?

Congratulations! That is a great machine!
Since those old 'Tags were meant to drain the whole tub in about 60 seconds lots of people have found their plumbing to be unco-operative so you are not alone!

WAY COOL.

Congrats!

That blue (flex) cord that is submerged and being stepped on wouldn't be a live power cord would it?

*eyes roll* O M G!

FUN MACHINE!

QF

The last two letters of the serial number are QF, which tells us that it is a March of 1972 machine.

I'm so glad you like it Jed. I'm certain that you will have many years of good fun with her!

I'll shoot you some PN's and stuff back in an email.

Ben

One question, Jed: I see the the 806 automatically advances from pre-wash/soak to the regular cycle. Does it use the same tub of water, or does it partially drain and refill like a Whirlpool's Super Wash cycle?

If it uses the same tub of water, I'd be using that feature all the time. I think (especially stained) loads always benefit from a pre-wash/soak, but I hate to use extra water to do it.

The bags of Mexican detergent I've used (Ariel, Viva, Ace, 1-2-3, etc.) always recommend a soak-then-wash routine, which makes sense to me, especially if you don't use more water or have to return to advance it to the regular cycle. Even with the pre-wash/soak, a complete cycle probably wouldn't be much longer than a normal cycle is on your FL Whirlpool. By the way, what kind of dryer is that? The door handle and its placement look quite similar to my Frigidaire.

Again, congrats on getting such an awesome, classic washer.

I just LOVE that machine Jed! Congrats on finding such a treasure! I miss my Maytag terribly, luckily, my step mom has one of the last helical Maytags and I can play with that now and then, but I miss that center-dial control panel!!!

Now please take that blue electrical cord and suspend it from the ceiling, we wouldn't want to have you shocked while doing laundry.
That was a MESS you had on that floor? How on earth did you ever clean it up?
Could it be that your drain needs roto-rootering?

The washer spins out completely between pre-wash and soak. Some savvy users would start the washer with powder detergent in the prewash, then fill the softener dispenser with liquid detergent for the main wash. At the house I stayed at for the summer of 1976, Tide went into the pre-wash and Era (remember the big orange bottle with the pump on top?) into the dispenser for the main wash.

(and we didn't itch)

Congrats on your new beauty!

Yeah, it drains after pre-wash. Frigilux, you bet it looks like your Frigidaire... it's the matching Kenmore dryer to our deceased FriGEmore.

THe drain has been roto-rootered many a time before... when the sink drains it overflows up through the floor drain.. not much I can do about it, except make sink drain slowly, which works just fine. And I did move the power chord, and even though it looks like I'm standing on it, I'm actually standing on pvc pipe.

Here's the the video of the first washload, you'll have to pardon my friend

a little advice....

...but first of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Jed,
Move that washer as far away from that gas water heater as you can get it. Being that close will encourage rust!
Get your drain line cleaned out so that it can take the draining water. Maytag has always had great pumps that move LOTS of water. You have one of the finest machines made and it's in great condition, so take care of it, and it will most likely last as long as you do! Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Mark Lightedcontrols

Pre Soak Cycle

I have the same 806 but in white. On the dial there is a prewash but there is also a soak before the regular cycle. This gives you 10 min of soak time before moving into the cycle. It is perfect as it does not drain out the water prior to advancing. I have a question about the dispensing of bleach can anyone explain how it works?

Bleach Dispenser

Yeah, I would also like to know how the bleach dispenser works.. it looks like there is a hose attached to the pump... maybe to provide suction to mix things up?? I don't know

As the tub is filling some of the water in the tub goes into the bleach injector thru the tub to injector hose

When the motor starts the pump sucks out some of the bleach and water solution

It goes thru the bleach injector hose thru the punp thru the big pump to tub hose and into the bottom of the tub

the pump also sucks more water into the bleach injector thru the tub to bleach injector hose

When the washer spins out the water the pump drains out the bleach injector tank

That makes it self cleaning

It also with the bleach injector to pump hose looped around the tub to bleach injector hose it prevents the bleach from going into the tub too soon so as to give the detergent time to work

It also is a unusual time bleach dispenser
