Hi All, I should preface this by saying we do not have an overflow problem with our washer (a Speed Queen AWS76NW). This is just an informational question. I checked Google but didn't see this specific question answered.

When installing a washer, is there a reason to have the drain hose hanging down a few feet from where it comes out of the machine, before it ascends up to the standpipe? That's the way the Sears guys installed it.

My partner is at the beach almost every day, and he accumulates a huge amount of sand in his socks. I'm wondering if the sand can eventually build up in this loop and clog the drain pipe.

Thanks as always for any info.

It sure could clog the trap in the pipes

but the drain hose may be so thin that the velocity of water pumping out would pump all that sand down into your traps & pipe and never clog.

I'd have "beachboy" shower outside and rinse everything out , that's what I have all my tenants and guests do at my beach shak.

Sand once it in your pipes is nasty to get out again because they just drain the are not pumped.
