Maytag Wringer

My grandmother had the same machine,it sat in her kitchen, she seldom used it. She did most of her laundry on a wash board useing the lye soap she made.

Gary,
Was there any reason why your Grandmother wouldn't use it?
When my Grandmother got her first automatic washer, she would wash stuff in the sink too.
I don't think she was afraid of it,She had cataracts and couldn't see what she was doing.
No one ever knew she was half blind.

Brian,
She live alone she would wear the same dress all week, soaked undies in the kitchen sink all day then scrubbed them on the glass wash board. She was the type that would roll her stockings down and twist them in a knot. We spent summers with her, good memories.

Stockings rolled down like Mama, from Mama's family?

Nice catch!

Neat how stories evolve. First we only heard of automatics chucked into the corner while the wringer remained in use. Now we hear of wringers cast aside, in favor of the washboard. So interesting. Thank you.

It looks like there is a pump lever visible behind the middle of the right front leg; if so, that machine is a steal--and it's the CADILLAC!

Be great if someone got it!

Brian,

Ahhh Memories

My Mom had a Maytag like this one when I was about 5 or 6, and ran my arm through the wringer. Didn't hurt, but scared me a little. Now I want one.
