HA! Clever one! One of my friends just turned 18,and drinks Mountain Dew all the time. He got so hyper, after drinking a whole two liter bottle at my Christmas party that he could hardly talk! Seems the young guys really love that stuff!

Problem with all these great appliance finds is usually the "no shipping/local pick up" conditon by seller. Even for a great item like the one shown, there probably only a limited local/tri-state area.

Shipping, even when a seller consents will easily run several hundred of dollars via Craters & Freighters type of service. If the item weighs less than 200lbs and meets other requirmements, UPS is an option, but who is going to crate/pack and arrange shipping.

Mind you, it is a great item and in my neck of the woods, just not a wringer washer type of gal. Twin tubs, ok, but not wringers. *LOL*

Interesting! It seems like the newer Maytag wringers are the ones that are more commonly seen unused, such as this one. This looks like a model N2LP or N2LPS (safety model w/footswitch for wringer)...can't tell for sure. It does appear to have a pump though.

Jamie, have you looked at the Bendix Gyromatic in Grand Rapids? Would definitely be a cool machine to have...and you don't have to bolt this one down! That and the very splashy wash...

Oy, building a wringer??? MUCH easier said than done...whew!

I would love to get that Bendix, but, it shows some significance obviously to someone who is bidding. It isn't really the Bendix I was looking for anyway, I want to let someone else have this honor. Besides, mom would NEVER go for it!

Wow!

That's so close it's a local phone call. This is another one of those times that I wish that I lived in a house and not an apartment.

Sigh!

Are you referring to the Gyromatic or the Maytag N?

just not a wringer washer type of gal. Twin tubs, ok, but no

I've seen lots of women use these wringer washers, but they also had an automatic on hand. Some would use the wringer washer first for 5 to 10 minutes, and then run the clothes through a full automatic cycle. Others would use their automatic for only spin purposes. It must be something about the wringer washer's agitation that they felt it was more thorough, or maybe gentler, that they liked better than their automatic's agitation. But they didn't necessarily use the wringer.

Wow! Look at that! I didn't know Maytag made a horizontal axis wringer! That's definitely a keeper! Good luck!

So what???

Who said there's anything wrong with being "hyper" about finding washers?? Actually, if anyone on here DOESN'T get excited about acquiring a machine, that's when they have a problem!!!

If only you could just pick it up.......

The crating and shipping pretty much kills it for just about everybody. It would cost about $200.00 to crate and maybe $400.00 to freight it. Even if you got it for nothing, you would spend a small fortune just to get it to your door. You just have to hope that something pops up within driving distance in your state.

Good luck, and I hope something great shows up close to you! We all deserve a break (and a terrific find)!

Shipping Costs

launderess's profile picture
First time I got off the phone wiht Craters and Freighters, felt like asking them "what are you smoking"?

Item final cost - $200

C&F cost to ship three measly states to our home $400 give or take.

Problem with washers, especially is making sure the item is packed/crated correctly including shipping bolts for front loaders. C&F stated they "do this sort of thing all the time",but one never knows, does one?

Crating and Freighting

Gotta tell you, getting something from out of state can empty your wallet. For the 1959 Frigidaire CI stove, I was charged $202.00 for crating. However, my husband's company was able to get us a discount on freight from Ohio to Texas. That ended up costing $180.00. This was not cheap, but at least we got something shaved off of the freight cost. I frankly don't see us purchasing something from out of state unless it is so special that money is no object (LOL).

I've paid well over $1K on 3 different occasions for the machine and the shipping. It's kinda our version of the Mile High Club...

OH to TX

$180? I think that's a pretty good rate for something so big and heavy as a range. And funny how it turns out it was more expensive to CRATE it than to SHIP it. I wonder what stores are charged for shipping appliances to them? I imagine they get a "deal", but curious as to how much of a deal.

Maytag charges $75.00 single lot. 12+ is freight free.
