Corn & Maytags! Today was a good day. The air was crisp, very little humidity - for some reason everything felt like it clicked in place today. I even wondered about karma today - sort of like Earl - except my list isn't anywhere near as exciting as his. And did it pay off ever. Today was the delivery day for my kitchen cabinets. If I get enough requests I can post about that in the sandbox. My grandparents actually were dropping them off, so I decided to take everyone out for dinner for their hard work and efforts unloading '22 units' as my grandpa said. On the way to dinner - drove around back of an appliance store that I've scored a few machines from before. As I drove up, I thanked God for two things: ONE: I had the Tahoe TWO: I just happen to have a dolly in the back of the truck from moving cabinets As I drove up I mentioned to mom - "oh, there are some goodies up there..." |

Now, after dinner my plan was to drive back and pick them up. But, as I drove up they were still closed. Knowing that I needed to do the right thing, I walked inside the little store and asked about the old yellow washer and dryer out back. After 20 seconds of conversation, she said, 'eh, just take'em'. I couldn't believe how minty clean this set is. The washer, as pulled out of the truck. |

May, 1972. I just love how they really are a matching pair, only a few months apart! This was the second version of this tag as used on the '06 series machines. Notice that the model and serial are quite small, maybe a 10 point? Later in 1972 or 73 (can't remember), due to the complaints of the service folk - Maytag went back to the larger stamp so the service guys could read the model and serial tag better. This is buried somewhere in the service bulletins. |

Not sure what I am going to do with the set - but if they need to be moved, I'll post something on the board. Final shot - very funny that the matching refrigerator at the appliance store was the very same refrigerator that we had growing up in Cedar Falls (less the Harvest)! Coincidence - or Karma? ;-) Enjoy (and you vacuum folks have a fun weekend too), Ben |

Thanks guys for the kind comments! I guess some might consider a non-suds Maytag to be flawed - but since it is an HA806 - I'll let this one pass ;-) Again, the machines are in amazing shape, and I threw them down the stairs last night before going out, so I didn't get much of a chance to test them out. However, I did plug in the washer to give it a quick test drive: (please pardon the mess in the basement - as I said I needed another Maytag set like a hole in my head) |

So as I was messing around in the basement while I let it spin for the rinse, and besides the fact that it is probably one of the quietest Maytag's I've ever heard - a little surprise happened. KER-CHUNK - said the timer! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. A 1972 Maytag with a factory Mallory timer installed - she is a keeper! (The Whirly fridge was nice, but for the same reason it was out behind the store, it doesn't quite go with the look I am shooting for in the kitchen. Too bad - it was mint too!) I'll post some washing updates either later today or tomorrow evening. Ben |

Ben---I have a question about the Maytag directly behind your new 806. It looks like the one in yesterday's POD. In the ad for that POD, it said the washer had a new Rinse Conditioner Dispenser, but I don't see where it is. The lint filter had a solid cap and I didn't see a dispenser in the corner of the lid area. Can you enlighten me on that feature, please?

Eugene - I didn't catch the POD - but I suspect it was the add for the dispenser that would actually sit over top the lint-filter/gyrator. Very similar to the GE dispenser - fill it up before the wash and set the dispenser over the gyrator. A dispenser was also available for the skinny post highlander series as well - which is the only one I've seen (I think Don [Jetaction] has one). This was quickly replaced in late 63/1964 with the '02 series machines that had the integrated dispenser in the lint filter that we are used to seeing all the way through the end. Lawrence - ah, the Stratoliner range! Plan on using that full time in the kitchen, but right now it lives in the basement while the kitchen/bathroom are in a state of chaos. Found the range a few years back at an antique salvage center. Never seen a 30 in version of it and should make for some nice cooking once things settle down. More to come tomorrow... |

Today I decided to clean up the machine and run a load of whites through it. After some testing post clean-up - the water injector will need replacing; but I wasn't going to allow that to foil my Sunday afternoon plans. The YouTube clip is a bit long - have patience. Some clean up photos. Yeah, I know it is just another Maytag, but this one is so purdy! In this photo - the outer tub top is almost cleaned up. Found the lamp cover down by the pump. Took a second to wipe down the base, checking for rust. Not sure what I was thinking; there isn't any! Strange that this has a factory installed square frame motor - remember reading about this in the service bulletins that the switch started around this time. And a concrete counter-weight? Strange too! |

Hi Ben, I see from the dates that you were watching the store, posting a major work, while Robert and Greg were away. Did no computing in Canton so was out of the Aworg loop. Are you always going to be this good or is it just a 10 year phase;'D. So glad you told me about Jimmy's Philco and Kelvi. A Philco is a life-changing event. Here's what sad. My sister Peggy had a Tag without the highest fill option, and we didn't know then about holding the button in to get more water. With a family of 5, her machine couldn't keep up, so she bought the huge Kitchen Aid. Both Peg and my mom both have 15 year-old KA's. Only from Aworg have I learned how amazing the Maytag Automatics are. Someday, I hope to get one, just to appreciate how well-made and trouble-free they truly are. |

Even I thought this one had dropped off! (or maybe it is because I've been without the internet at home for a few days...) Anywho - thanks again for the great comments guys! One of these upcoming winter days - the basement will look good again and I'll hopefully have all the Maytags in a row, ready for viewing, or washing! The ultimate goal is to have everything from 1949 through 1969 (AMP/101/140/160/700/806/906) hooked up and ready to roll. Greg - maybe if I liked Frigidaire's as much as I do Maytag's I'd have a bunch of Unimatics in the basement ;-) Ben |

Ben, I'm just speechless!! I can't get over this set. And I loved the video. I am hoping friends here remember the avocado A606 or A608 his parents have when his parents are no longer in the house--dad is in very bad health--the dryer is a 308 or 408. It's in pristine shape and his mom preferred hanging out the wash so dryer wasn't used as much.
