I was told that the s means it has a safty bulb you step on to make the wringer work. The one I just purchased has a tube but no bulb on it. is there a way to bypass this or to get a bulb for it? I would apprectate any help it's maytag e2ls thank you

Hi Randy ... yes; you can bypass the safety pedal.
Make sure the machine is unplugged and reach up underneath and find where the safety pedal is screwed into the wringer post drive; right above the right-angled drive.
Unscrew the safety pedal from the machine and take it to your local hardware store. You want to buy a machine bolt and I think the measurement is a 1/2" head. Make sure you get one that is 2-3" long. Screw the bolt PART WAY back into the wringer post (where you removed the safety pedal housing).
Plug the machine back in and see if the wringer rolls start to turn. If they don't turn, unplug the machine and screw the bolt in a little more. Plug the machine back in and see if the rollers turn.
By using the bolt, you are replacing the safety pedal and pressing in on the safety clutch that is on the right angled drive.
A lot of people did not like the safety pedal. I liked it when I was wringing something large (like a blanket or rug) and wanted to quickly stop the rollers to readjust the item so it would go through smoother. Other than that, I don't like them either.
I just got your reply. I messed with it at lunch time today to see how it worked. I took the plactic piece apart and put 2 5/16" washers in there to hole the button out. I screwed it back in and it worked fine. I got my fingers cought in the wringer of my old one once.I can see why the safty pedal is there. It hurt like hell til it released! thanks for your help anyway. I didn't know if it would keep leaking oil if I just put a screw in it or not.
