This machine is availabe in Daytona Beach, Fl. Does anyone have any info on how well it might perform or its service record?
Of course he doesn't have the matching dryer but I can deal with that. I prefer the top mounted controls ths unit has.
Any info on it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

That's the one I have at home in white and it's great! I have had it since November '07 and had no problems.IT USES VERY LITTLE WATER.Most people I have talked into getting one have been surprised and almost dissapointed in its low water usage.I found out by accident that the perma press cycle fills with more water than the others. So,I use it most of the time.I also have its matching electric dryer. It also has a 28 minute quick cycle!!!

I would be very careful and make sure you have good service in your area! My situation with LG was a complete disaster. I have posted and described my service experience with my combo. Now I have no machine and am better without it. Look up on google (lg service nightmare) - I would like to buy another combo but I am very hesitant.
Good Luck whatever you decide,
Peter

Make sure you have a big bank account for service too.

I had 2 of them and they were service nightmares . Took more than 4 weeks to get service most of the time.. They DID do a good job of washing but I DONT like washing 1 cup of water (ok maybe a cup and half.) They never stopped leaking keep a wet vac handy..

Took the plunge!

Hope I am not sorry!
Made a deal on it and will hopefully pick it up today or tommorow. I read reviews on it and most were favorable and my best friend up in NY had one and swore by it when they first came out. I did not see any remarks about the units having leakage issues, Susdman, most of the problems seem to be with the leveling of the machine. I never had that problem with our original Neptune which we bought in 1997 and foolishly left in NY for the people who bought the house.
As far as Service goes, I have a service policy for everthing in the house with American Home Sheild which I keep primarily for the Central AC coverage but they have come out to fix my GE Profile wall oven and the local guy did a good job. They will be stuck with servicing the LG. I have heard complaints about lack of service here as well in this area. I guess I will keep my TL shredmore in the garage just in case!

As far as water usage, it seems like the machine pumpes the water thru the paddles as well as having the wash tumble thru it. Is that correct? And how much power does the heater consume?
I will let yu all know what we think of it when it gets hooked up.

my two cents

My LG 2432 is the most brilliant appliance I have ever owned. I know others have had problems with LG's and I agree that, at least here in the US, service is clueless, but this machine washes, rinses and spins better than any machine I have ever seen. If you don't like that small amount of water it uses, do what I do: use the Permanent Press cycle. Also, you don't need to use expensive HE detergent except in the Sanitary Cycle. Just use 1/4 (or less) of every additive you would normally use.

In and Running!

Well, for those who know me, I can be obsessed with some things.. this was one of them! As soon as the seller called me, I told him I was jumping on I-95 and heading towards his house to get the machine. It was sitting in his garage amid the rubble of his life and looked happy to be going to a new and appreciative home. It has a little bit of wear and tear on it but nothing too bad. It isn't exactly out of the box!

Pulled out my Kenmore 70 series workhorse and hooked up the LG.

My wife couldn't wait to do a load of wash! She even helped me gently remove it from the car!
After hooking it all up,she reviewed the control panel and then she selected the Quick Cycle and delicate with slow spin speed.

That gave us a wash, 2 rinses and a spin after leveling the load out.
Clothes looked clean and used very little water. Noticeably little water.

I noticed a nozzle at the top of the door opening and I made sure i faced the tub and it seems that this pumps water when the tub is rotating.. Ken, what is this thing anyway?

So far the only complaint I have is that the drain pump is rather noisy. Is this normal or should I get a spare lined up?
I checked the drain pump filter as soon as I got it out of the minivan and it was clean as a whistle.

Also noticed some black spots on the clothes which I think came from the water hoses or from disturbing them since I saw the same stuff in the softener dispenser reservoir.
We will rewash the same load tomorrow and see what happens.
But my wife already loves it and has placed the ceremonial towel on top of it to protect the top of the cabinet. Shades of the Old Neptune! She did the same thing.
She does enjoy the picture show more than the solid door Nepune.
I will psot an update tomorrow.

One last thing.. is the door supposed to feel like it isn't closed and locked? Seems like it is loose on the bottom but it isn't leaking anything at all! Anyone have any input on this?

Good Luck Steve~

You will love your LG washer and the service here in Florida. I have had my LG Front Load washer/dryer almost 2 years and have never had an issue with service.

Thankfully, I only had to call them one time and I was very pleased.

I am confident you won't regret your purchase.

Thanks 'Shane

I was at Home depot prior to picking up the machine and asked one of the appliance salespeople off the record and in the lawn mower dept what the story was with the sertvice. He said LG doesn't have a good service force of their own at least in the Palm Coast area and uses local guys for service who may or may not know what they are doing. They call LG tech support for answers and what parts to order.

Like I posted earlier, I have American Home Shield for all the appliances and A/C in the house and it will be their problem when the time comes if ever. More than likely, I will fix it myself anyway.
Maybe where you are located they have factory service or at least a servicer who has invested the time and money he needed to in order to do it right.
I am looking foward to the next loads of wash to see how it does. And the reduction in the water bill as well! We average 6-10 loads a week so that would have been about 400 or more gallons with the Kenmore and if this thing actually uses about 13 gallons a load, that is more than 75% less water usage.
I can't wait for the next water bill!

Steve, from what I've learned and researched, the pump is kinda noisy. It's funny your wife selected the quick cycle. I had meant to comment earlier, from what Todd and a couple of other people told me, the way they got a quick cycle was to eliminate most spins between the wash and rinses. Personally, because of that, I'd never use that cycle. I'd prolly select light soil on the delicate cycle The little nozzle you were asking about, that's for the recirculating spray which sprays on the clothes part of the time during the wash and supposedly thorugh the rinses too.

The recirculating spray works to be sure the clothes are completely saturated with soapy wash or clear rinse water.the niose in your pump may be occuring from an object in your "button catcher"which protects the pump from foreign objects like coins or other things left in pockets.Place it in the spin mode and open the litle door on the left lower part of the cabinet.place a thirsty towel under and in front of he washer and unscrew he filter. If you see anything in there, remove it and put everything back together.I do this once a month and the pump stays relatively quiet.I use Gain W/bleach(1/2 scoop)and it realy does a great job!I enjoy the recirculating spray and the high spin!I also like the booster which maitains about 160 degree wash temperature.

I have an LG Tromm WM2277 and love it. It is about three years and 4 months old and I have never had any troble with it at all. It washes very well with little water and the clothes come out nearly dry since it spins so fast. It holds a lot. The only thing I find is that the washer holds so much that I usually split it into two dry loads because things come out wrinkled otherwise. No big deal since the longest the dryer ever seems to run is about 20-25 minutes tops. Every so often I drain out the pump, the appliance store told me to do that every so often to avoid build up of detergents.

I found the service manual online somewhere and have it as a pdf if you are interested, I could mail it to you. Its pretty cool, goes over everything, diagnostic mode, etc.

Oh, and I'm new here. This is my first post. Cheers!

Welcome Aboard, Andy!

Always great to see new guys joining the ranks! I would apprciate seeing that service manual, Andy. So if you don't mind, please feel free to email it to me at the email address I have listed in my profile.

It is good to hear that your machine has been trouble free. Seems like the LG's suffer from some serious issues and even worse customer service. I will post our immediate experience on just the first day in the next post.
But thanks again for the offer of the manual. It will probably come in handy.
The model we now have is WM2032HS.

Post# 298980 , Reply# 14   8/24/2008 at 17:42 (5,720 days old) by stevet (West Melbourne, FL)
Should have looked before I leapt?

Well, we installed the WM2032HS last nite when I got back home with it and ran a Quick cycle on it just to make sure it all worked and familiarize ourselves with the controls and sounds.

The washer appeared to work fine and performed somewhat differently from the Neptune we left up in NY. That being said, we enjoyed the show going on behind the glass window as well.
When we removed the clothes, there were black greasy spots on the clothes which was unnerving but I attributed them to left over fabric softener in the dispenser and or debris in the water hoses.
Just to be sure, I ran the sanitary cycle with a healthy dose of clorox bleach this morning before rewashing the spotted clothes and the machine performed flawlessly.

Then my wife decided to rewash the previous load of clothes from last night and then the machine began the cycle and then locked out with a "LE" error signifying a motor overload. Well this was a very small load of maybe 6 pairs of men's shorts and 2 Tee shirts. Hardly a heavy load.
Since I had gone out, she decided to turn off the machine and when I got home about an hour later, we tried it again and it gave us the same error on permanent press as well as normal cycle.
I unplugged the machine to clear the control board and tried it again and the same thing happened. The machine would fill and pump the water thru the window nozzle but no rotation at all. Not even on the rinse and spin cycle.

Well, after spending about a half hour reading forums which bemoanded the apparantly poor design and customer service from both LG and most bigbox stores, I certainly had buyers remorse.

I went inside and tried the machine agaion and it seemed to be perfectly fine now. It went thru the whole speed wash cycle without a hitch..no errors and the clothes came out "spotless."

So now we wait for the next load to see what happens.

Have these errors been common at all to any of you who have the LG'S? how did you clear them?
I am ready to return the machine back to the guy I got it from but I am sure he will be reluctant to take it back.
Well there is always American Home Shield!

Not everybody here knows this but there is a way to test for any failiers using your control board.it will do a thorough test on different features and performance. You need to press two of the buttons(spin speed and soil level)together and press the power button just after and during the presure on them. The entire panel will illuminate and as you release the buttons. For each feature tested there is a pattern you need to follow and the timer dial is all you need to use now the test system is on.

1)Press it once to check the clockwise tumble and pump functions.

2)Press it twice to check the low rpm spin and drain.

3)Press it three times to check the high rpm spin and drain.

4)Press it four times to check the pre wash temp and deergent dispenser made for that cycle.

5)Press it five times to check the main wash detergent dispenser.

6)Press it six times to check the fabric softner dispenser.

7)Press it seven times to check the bleach dispenser.

8)Press it eight times to check the counter clockwise rotation and pump.

9)Press it nine times to check the water level for soak.

10)Press it ten times to check drain pump.

If you check the spin rpm and want to proceed to the next test i.e.main wash, press the timer twice AND WAIT FOR THE DRUM TO COMPLETELY STOP.It will proceed to the selected trial once the drum stops.

remember, this is a test.Be sure there are no clothes inside!!Especialy when testing the spin RPM velocity. If there are clothes inside during this specific test, you will damage the machine. The two spin tests make the drum go imediaely to either 800 or 1200 rpms within ten seconds!!!!!If there are clothes(especialy wet ones)inside, the severity of the unballanced, high spinning tub's vibration will cause permanent damage to the machine.Unlike the actual cycle that sences the tub ballance, this does not ,and will not, stop untill you press either the timer dial to set the next test procedure or the power button to completely shut the unit off.to end the test(s) just press the power button.

I hope this helps those who ,like myself, love their L.G.washers and want to learn as much as posible about them. That way,if service is ever needed,we can test the tech they send out to see if they know any more than we do about them.I actualy like the direct drive as aposed to belt drive. It is a bit quieter and less to go wrong.

CHUCK

Hi Steve, I have the same washer. It will be 5 years old this November. Only had one problem with a little leak around the door. Got EXCELLENT service. THey came, ordered a new door and replaced it a week later.

I bought the washer at a chain called PC RIchards, and bought a 10 year contract for $220.00. I think it was well worth it. Machine washe, rinses and spins well. I always used the extra rinse.

If you have any other questions. please let me know

What has your ewxperience been with it? Any problems?

Whats the story Ray

Hi Steve. I have the washer almost 5 years now. I have had only one problem with it. On occasion, (not every load, or every week), a little water dripped on the floor. I called for service, (through PC RIchards), they came, ordered the door and replaced it. Two other times, I have had another small amount of water from under the machine. This only happened twice, but since my machines are now mounted on pedestals, this problem has not occurred.
I ALWAYS use the extra rinse since not much water is used. However.....the machine does clean and rinse very well. I also use an HE detergent. All in all(despite the small amount of water used, which ALL of the new front loaders are guilty of), I am pretty happy with the machine and also the dryer.

My Neptune dryer broke 8 weeks ago. I replaced the dryer with a close match to the washer. Model DLG0452W. It has the controls on the back just like the washer. This is a GREAT dryer. Very solid, quiet and does a great job drying the clothes with the various temperature settings. Being that it is a larger dryer than the Neptune and matches the washer, a lot of clothes that needed ironing, no longer need it.

I know a lot of people on AW an other forums say good and bad. But it is like anything else. When you buy a new product you are taking a chance. And in this day and age, I think you take a chance at any make that you buy, since a lot of the major companies bought each other out. Certain brands that were excellent years ago are not necessarily good now.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at my email address in my profile.

Hope you enjoy the machine

Ray

Thanks and here is an update!

Well after getting the "le" errors yesterday, we just left the machine and went about other normal Sunday stuff less the laundry.

I wound up being home today and figured why not just give it a try and see what it does!

Well, I did 3 loads of laundry and no problems at all.
I did unplug it yesterday for about 2 minutes and replugged it in but didn't try it.

Guess that may have done the trick at least for now.

I had put in a call and email to the guy I bought it from and he said the same thing happened to him when he first got it from HD. Needless to say, he got no help from them and said when he called LG, nobody could tell him what to do!

He also offered to take the machine back or make some kind of adjustment if it happens again. He said it was working fine up until about a month ago. So he said if it craps out again we can talk about an adjustment in price or a refund. I am surprised that there are still people out there like that.

So the loads came out clean depsite nearly no water being used.
and I bet they will be better when we decide it's a keeper and get the HE detergent!

Thanks for all your help Guys. I really appreciate it.

One last question... is there any way to "CANCEL/DRAIN' this machine? My original neptune had the timer dial you could advnce by hand to simply drain or spin and drain without having to go thru a whole cycle.

Steve - if it's any consolation, the LG dishwasher has performed flawlessly so far that I have had it. Quiet, efficient, huge capacity and reliable. No regrets with it, and it's very easy to service if needed (of course, I had to take it apart just once!!)

Update!

Chuck, I used your directions to drain the machine when I got home because my wife tried to do a load in it and it filled and just circulated the water in the tub. No drum movement and of course the "LE" error again. And again, and again. It would drain but no drum action!

Unplugged the machine numerous times for longer durations and still no drum movement. I took off the back and top panels to check for borken, chewed thru or loose wiring and it all seemed to be fine. Checked the ball switch which seemd to be the off balance switch but to no avail.
Then I put it all back together and still nothing. Unplugged it once more and I think I opened the door to unload and hand rinse the soapy clothes, turned on the power but did not select a cycle and then the selector dial went to quick speed wash which was the last cycle I tried and I closed the door and tried it and the machine started working. I pressed pause and loaded the clothes back in and the cycle went perfectly from start to end! Go figure!

This morning we loaded it again with clothes and tried the normal wash and Voila! it worked again.
What the heck is going on?? I still suspect a bad master control board which is like $152 bucks from Sears(they show it in stock). Have asked the seller to either take back the machine for a full refund or pay for the part. I awat his response.

We actually like the machine and it does a great job of cleaning so far as long as we can get it to wash!

A Happy Ending in the making!

Spoke to the seller today and he apologized for the trouble we were having and offered to refund the money for the board.
I know he has had this thing serviced in the past because the back inspection panel had been installed backwards. All the warning labels and wiiring diagrams were facing the wrong way and the original screw marks were on the wrong side when I went to remove it yesterday. Be that as it may, I will collect the money and go from there. We really like the machine and didn't want to give it up especially for the price we paid.
Now let's see how it holds up!

the warranty is 2 years parts 1 year labor on the entire unit and the motor is covered (parts only)the following 5 years. You need the serial number and a call to L.G.to find out the date of manufacturing. Then, call the seller and ask them their date of pchse. That is when the warranty kicks in.If they did not regester it,you may want to try and see if L.G.will repair it for free after you, yourself call and regester it.I did that once with a combo I found at the junk yard!L.G.honored it after I pitched a royal bi--h on how I did not understand why my friend who gave it to me should have to give me a receipt and make me find out how much they paid for it.After that and a 6 month wait for my part, they increased the coverage another year!!!

Oh those parts

I work for Hobart and cannot imagine waiting so long for parts from any manufacturer. All the horror stories including yours says that LG does not have their act together at all here. I am amazed at how such big operations like HHGregg and HD sell their products. must be extremely profitable, but they are pissing customers off and I foresee low repeat sales by offended customers. I will have to pull the machine out and get the serial number and see what happens.

So Far, So good!

Well, the seller graciously refunded me the cost of the main control board so I actually got a fantastic deal on this machine. By some strange occurence, it has continued to perform perfectly since my last update but I am going to change that board if it happens again. Seems to really do a nice job on the clothes even using non HE detergent which I finally bought today since it now looks like we will keep the washer.
I can't thank all of you enough for the help and advice you always freely provide. One of these days I will have the pleasure of meeting some of you at a wash-in. Or maybe a Dishwash-in!

Steve -

Try www.repairclinic.com.... I broke the door latch on my LG dishwasher accidentally, and they had a new one to me within 6 days by mail. They had to order it direct from LG, but since the new machine warranty wasn't going to cover it anyway, I just bought one from them for $22 and installed it myself. (Butter knife fell out of my hand and landed square inside of the door latch slot on the door...sprung it backwards so I couldn't lock the door.)

They said there is rarely a wait for parts as they have multiple sources they can get parts from, as long as it's not a warranty issue.

Thank you so much for that information. How did you get it? And isn't it unbeleivable that NONE of the servicepeople that have looked at my LG 2432 seemed to have known about it!

Thanks, Andy

Andy, just wanted you to know that the service manual you sent me as referenced above came in handy today when the LG died again.

Was able to troubleshoot it out of the manual and it is back in service again. Now let's see how long it runs from now 'til whenever!

One posted a link to service manuals for LG washing machines. It's been ages now and now sure if the link would still work.

Glad you found it usefull. I was amazed at the detail provided and the onboard diagnostics the machine is capable of. Good luck with your machine.

Andy

so what was the problem?

Post# 300933 , Reply# 42   9/2/2008 at 18:50 (5,711 days old) by stevet (West Melbourne, FL)
think I got it solved!

The machine died again on Monday morning.. evrything functioned but the drum would not turn. eventually it would lead to a "LE" motor overload error.

Pulled off the control panel cover and check my voltages at the motor connectors and lo and behold, they were what they were supposed to be. Plugged the connector back in and the machine started working.. for a few seconds!
When I took off the connector again, I noticed how loose it seemed to be so I took a really tiny screwdriver and bent the molex connector pins a bit and they fit tighter into the connector receptacle on the main board. The machine seemed to work fine after that and if I pulled the connector out while it was supposed to be turning, it would stop. Plug it in and it started again.
Maybe that will be the end of the mystery but the main board is still an option 'til we feel satisfied that that was the original problem.

Update! SUDSLOCK!

Well so far so good! The machine has worked flawlessly. A few loads since I tightened the connectors and no problems.

Last nite we did a load of my filthy uniforms and apparantly 3/4 of a measure of regular Tide(non-HE) was enough to make whipped cream out of the little water that is used in this machine.. Not to worry though!

At 32 minutes into the 56 minute cycle and at the first rinse, the machine went into suds control mode! It kept adding and draining water to the load until the suds disappeared, maybe added about 15-20 minutes of that routine and by the time it came to the final rinse, the water was clear on the viewing glass. I am impressed!

Suds Lock Routine

Yes....I forgot about this since I only use HE detergents. However, when I used some of the Mexican detergents, this has happened. If you would like a little more water in the normal cycle for the wash, (wash only), you can first set it to delicate which adds much more water, then power off and turn back on and select the normal cycle. It will pump out some of the water, but not all of it. SO..you will have a little more water in the machine. It is a pretty smart machine. lol

I just replaced my old Neptue (POS) dryer with the LG (WM0452) gas dryer. Now this is a really fine dryer. Very solid, quiet running, and does and excellent job drying. It even sounds very solid on the start up. However...I did take the 10 year maintenance contract out for 250.00, since there have been repair and service problems. I have only had the washer serviced once, and had no problems.

lg tromm cold cleaning power

I have an LG tromm matching laundry pair, all electric. They launder just about everything I've thrown at it. As for the cleaning power of cold water, I remember the time when my mom and I have done a heavily soiled load of dark colors in the Spring of 2008. The clothes were very dirty and smelly. We used Gain laundry detergent and fabric softener. The were the kind designed for high-efficiency washers. We set it on cold/cold, cotton/normal and heavy soil. I can say that a little water will get tough stains out, because wen we transferred the load to the matching dryer, they were really clean. I put the matching dryer on heavy duty. They came out soft too. I believe what was happening was that the cold water was being forced into the clothes as they tumbled, loosening and lifting dirt with the roller jets and baffles which provide incredible cleaning power even with the use of cold water. Mine also has water recirculation, so the darks were completely saturated. It just goes to show that cold water and a little bit of it can absolutely pack a punch. I still use my mom's matching lg tromm to wash my clothes.

powerful clean

If that isn't enough, my mom's washer took on the sturdiest cottons, especially smelly dirty jeans. I've heard stories where people say that these washers hadn't taken dirt and stains out of clothes, but my mom's lg's have been performing and still perform flawlessly since day 1.

I now own three models. The 2277 is my favorite but the 8000 is huge and holds about thirty pounds.
