Old agitators

I recently broke a section off the bakelite agitator in my 1967 Fluid Drive (don't ask!)

I cursed, and remembered the spare one I threw away at the hard rubbish....

Fotunately, I located a retired washing machine engineer who had another.

Parts are getting scarcer for something this old, but they're there and will be as long as these older chaps are around!

Cheers

Peter---I know all the agitators but two; Help me out, OK?

To which brand of washer would agitator #4 in the rooftop photo belong?

To which brand of washer would agitator #3 in the march on Washington belong?

Thanks for the very entertaining photos!

number six on the roof

Rooftop #6 is an early Beam agitator, used in early Hotpoint, Dexter and Coronado automatics, as well as some other washers that Bean produced. I always thought it was a very cool design.

Hi jinx at Gyra's--love it!

mickeyd's profile picture
too many rooftops--cars and garages--and a little mold on mine ;'D

Eugene asked about #3 in "Warshington," which is still unidentified.

If 3 in the leaves is not a small manta ray, then I'm a Frigidaire square-necked ball sprung suds-back hose--do you have one in the warehouses? Give a roof to have one!

Just adding more fun and confusion.

IMO the only thing more kool than that all metal Surgilator would have been one done in that wonderful red marbleized bakelite with a chromium bullet cap of course!
The folks in marketing sure missed their moment. IMO ALL standard capacity Surgilators should have been red marbleized.

Stevie, I agree, the red marbleized Surgi is ecstacy

Now..... what about the Frigidiare square suds-return hose. You MUST know about these marvels. DO TELL !!!!!!! Should not have to go to Australia to find one, much less hear confirmation of its existence

Your good friend,

Mikey.

The one in the pic is a fake, a poseur, I need the real thing, to make a Frigidaire Sud-saver King. Rescue me!

I have that one, don't think I have the agitators in the attic.

#5 in that last photo is the best agitator ever designed IMO.

By best I mean effective wringing action + least wear on clothing.

Whoops I meant 2, not 5. The Kenmore.. :-)

For anyone who does not recognize this, look at Agitators Go To Washington, #2.

Picture taken using the built-in camera on my new iMac.

I am surprised Greg has not added a photo of the "Garden of Agitators" from his Wash-In" a number of summers ago. There sure were a lot of 'em.

#1 on the bus, the Whirly/'Kenmo looks quite dignified with it's little "poodle cap" on, riding in solitary splendor, awaiting its next match. A down and dirty dirt fighter in disguise.Just like the SQ, a real brute!

Thanks for the info on Agitator #3/Washington, Rich; So that's from a Kenmore, eh? I've never seen that one, although its flat top certainly screams KM.

When was it used? Was it on full-sized machines or the portables? And is that a lint filter right above the fins?

That gold kenmore agitator was the very first direct drive Kenmore agitator. The lint filter is in the center.

Here is the Agitator in the Attic picture, the first in the series I made...
