This was on Ebay a few months ago, around the corner from Pauls folks so we decided to go for it. Not quite the Quartz 600 I grew up with but its a start and has many of the features the 600 had. A few pics of it. This model was presumably (Budget?)some way of using parts from the 600 series and from around 1984/85/86 before the Servis 6030 debuted in late 1985 early 1986. |

Nice, I like the simple controls; this is what I am doing at the moment with the electronics project I’m in the middle of. I have just started working on the 2 X 7 segment display which will be similar to this service, whish I could get hold of that facer control panel for my experiment, would be just right. Going to have programs 1, 2, 5, & 7 when it's finished !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Main program install onto chip and working to a degree but for the thermostat and the switch board to operate relays also working. Clicks and glonks like old timmers do. Lee |

Hello Lee, (I think welcome from me!!!)I have a few control panels and boards if you need one, email me for sorting details etc... Cheers, Mike p.s. Cheap? Yes I have my cheap moments (Tesco Value does the trick- I was gutted when they hiked the price from 33p to 48p) Works wonders in the Vax's recovery tank too while I have been cleaning carpets, the Rug Doctor liquid foams up loads with the Vax'x brush bar combined with boiling water but its way better than Vax's AAA Formula. Now as for the softeners used on the laundry in the final rinse, no Im not cheap. That new Comfort Olive salad dressing cum FS is divine - been using it on everything, its a new favourite over my regular easy iron and pure varietys. And I just love the Tropical one too for those summery clothes. Sweet childhood memories with its Fruit Salad toffee scent. Totally chemical I know lol! R |

Hi Mike & everyone. I will do a tread in next few weeks for a progress update on what I’m trying to achieve and what I might need help with, (wiring diagrams for speed controls and facers ) will have to find a host machine again soon, but try not to use a classic machine!!! Would like to use a Hotpoint 95 ser but some would think that bad???? And not my 95622, maybe a tricty bendix aw1053 as I have done lots to one of these. Thanks Lee |

LOL! Paul The Rug Doctor fluid just about does all you can ask of it - even tea, coffee - a must in my eyes, (im terrible at spilling coffee) and traffic grime, you know those grey tracks that often appear on light carpets. It does foam up though, especially more as I have an Upright Vax with a rotating brush bar so when it hits the recovery tank it does trigger the float which shuts off the suction before the tank is anywhere near full. Adding a capful of Value softener to the empty dirty water tank solves this. I do boil the kettle and use as hot a water as I can - even carpets dont escape my "if its white or light it gets a boil" This helps with quicker drying times and grease removal. May I ask what Vax you have? I have the Rapide Deluxe whcih has the built in tools too. I have to pre mix water and formula into one tank for which I use the water bottles sealing cap as a measure 2 caps of formula to one tank of water. My Mum's Vax XL has a seperate soap tank to the water and she just fills that with Rug DOctor and lets the machine dispense it at its own rate. The manuals all say done use anything but Triple A however I see it as a ploy to make you buy the stuff. Bissell have an Interesting range of detergents including an Orange one and various other scents. Id like to try these at some point but its a case of as to whether they clean as well as Rug Doctor. I buy my RD FOrmula from Focus DIY or Wilko's and its way cheaper per litre than AAA. On another note tho Im sure you know the need to really give those carpets a good vacuuming before to remove the dust and grit that would be turning into mud when water hits it, I find a Hoover Turbopower/Senior or my Turbomaster is best at this as the Dyson or Electrolux cant get deep down enough with their brushbars, |

Contour? Im guessing by you saying its 800w (rrpŁ149) you have the bluey green one with the power boost button? Do you have an original Contour or one with ESP? the earlier ones didnt have ESP (Extra SUction Power) I have 2 Contours myself - the (1993 rrpŁ129)700w ESP model that was sold alongside the blue one you have. The white version does not have the boost button so it was slightly cheaper, I also have a later (1998 rrpŁ119) Contour 2 in Midnight blue which is 900w and with the looped handle. A little tip for you though, to really improve the suction and performance on yours do as I have done and use a Miele cylinder vacuum bag in it. You need to Take a GN or FJ Miele bag which is made of a high filtration fabric which allows greater airflow than paper bags can. Carefully remove the plastic collar by slicing around it tightly with a sharp paring knife. Remove the cardboard collar from an Electrolux paper bag and using good thick superglue run a line of glue around the rectangle of the cardboard collar. Carefully aline the Lux collar over the Miele bags hole and allow to dry. Voila - a bag that allows maximum suction and cleaner air. The 1993 TOL Electrolux Airstream (black version of the Contour with 1000w and variable power rrp Ł199) had a bag similar to this but the bags are now obsolete, Im so greatful my Grandad who has an Airstream has plenty of original bags in the cupboard just in case I manage to lay claim to his. One of the machine washing. THis model Servis had a lower more economical water level to wash with which was the same as the lowest level (1/2 load) on the Quartz. The higher level on the rinse cycle is the same as the middle level on the Quartz (full load wash level). That tapping is an Ariel liquid ball clonking on the plastic door bowl. Paul, I dont think that the hot water is likely to be a problem, I have cleaned wool carpets this way many a time however if your totally unsure use a cooler water solution and keep rasing the temp each time you clean etc etc if no ill effects occur and your happy the water is cleaning at a temp good enough. I take no responsibilty over any suggestions made here though, The hot water is more for those traffic areas to remove the grease that sets the dirt in. You have the model under mine which has the pre mixed water and soap tank, The grey plastic screw cap that seals the Vax clean water supply tank can be used as a detergent measring cup, the instruction book does say 3 cups of AAA but 2 cups of RD works best IMHO. I assume you are talking about a plain coloured carpet though and not a patterned one? Obvioulsy Im sure you know that hot water washing a patterned carpet is like putting that yellow duster in with the whites, Another tip I find is also to plug your ears with an MP3 player when using the Vax for a while, you end up with ears ringing for days if you dont - its worth the embarressment I had I can tell you. Week before last I offered my services of a Vax and myself to a friends who needed their 3 storey house Vaxing. Took my MP3 player to drown out the noise. Completely forgot that I had it on full volume to drown out the Vax and stopped the machine to re fill and empty. Didnt realise that one of the guys had come upstairs to see if I wanted a coffee and enquired as to what Bananarama song I was listening to? Caught me totally unawares even though he was just amusingly taking the mick I muttered something about having a totally stereotypical gay taste in music and had he of been 10 minutes earlier he may of been treated to some Pet Shop Boys. Apparently my face was scarlet red with embarressment. LOL! Matthew You do have a slightly earlier Contour, possibly made in 1991/1992 that you didnt buy until 1993. Yours will have a grey elbow where the hose enters the machine instead of the clear one fitted to aid blockage removal on the ESP's. I forgot there was 2 Contours in blue from the first run of them. One lot had variable power sliders like yours and one lot had a button that boosted the power for 10 seconds for dirty areas, My Mum decided to replace our 1988 Hoover Turbomaster U5096 around 1993 and went to look at the ELectrolux Contours after a few neighbours had one coupled with my constant chatting about so and so's Contour and how it worked etc etc. Electrolux also ran a good TV advert campaign to sell these cleaners. I remember her coming home from Manweb and telling me that she had tried a COntour in the shop and didnt like it as to use it at full power you had to keep bending down to press the boost button in every 10 seconds. She held out with the Hoover until 1994 (there was nothing wrong with it though) when they went and bought a Dyson DC01 after watching James Dyson show his wares in a documentary on BB2. That Dyson was nothing but trouble - the times we gave up on it and went back to the Turbomaster as a daily driver. However the Hoover was disposed of in 1996 fully working. Something I rue as the U5096 is highly rare and most of them sell on ebay for Ł200 or more. Oh well im sure il own one someday. Mike has one in his collection, cracking cleaner, might as well drop a pic of me using it in.... |

Spin cycle video. Excuse the highly irritating rattle on it when it gets to high speed - its due to a piece of Acetate that covers the motor which flaps around for some reason, it has been sorted but we dont have a new video of it spinning. 850rpm. CLICK HERE TO GO TO aquarius1984's LINK |
