Jaune, here is the promo (part of ad, anyway) for electric drying as you can see. I felt like one was around somewhere-cool machines, these are really beautiful. David |

We had westy spacemates in the early 60's electric drying of course. Did westy have gas fired dryers in the beginning or were they "total electric living" oriented? Thanks arthur. |

There were ads that touted "Clean, Flameless Electric Living" that showed electric appliance use all through the house - cooking in the kitchen, heating/cooling, laundry, etc. Here is one on ebay for electric heating, there were others that extended several pages of pictures & stories of families living better with electricity. Given that a lot of people were building new homes (or remodeling) and had lived with oil, coal, etc. the "clean" aspect of electric homes was very appealing. I had an aunt & uncle in Minnesota that had an all electric home with a gold medallion near the front door/doorbell that I just thought was too cool.

When I was in high school(in the 80's), I dated a girl whose parents had that same seal on thier front door. The house was a 60's ranch, and very modern for the time. |

The house my parents built in 1964 had an "all-electric" medallion on the doorbell.

The house across the street form us aws a Medallion house, built spring 1961. Had sea foam Westing house appliances and also had the new-fangled heat pump. And as mentioned above, there was gas--outlet for the dryer, log starter for fireplace, as well as gas lights on the front by the street and for the patio. The original cooktop & nutone hood are still there.
