Question for the experts.....the screens on bottom of tub are for lint removal. They are almost clogged. Are they supposed to come out for cleaning? Or should they be replaced? |

Next question...Super Wash, without an owners manual for this, how does this function work? Is the light supposed to light up? |

This is the model my mom had until they sold the house in 2002, she got it in late 1995 or early 1996. It was Circuit City's TOL Maytag. In the legitimate lineup, it was next to TOL. The TOL basically added the 4 speed combinations. I actually liked the energy saver switch. It yielded in 6 wash temps and I loved that flexibility. The hot with energy saver switch ended upp kinda being like "Medium" temp was in the mid 1950s. The Super Wash was simply an extended wash, I think it ended up being 18 or 20 minutews total on the wash cycle. And yes the little light is supposed to come on during that section of the cycle dial. I have the 9824 dryer. There are times I regret I wasn't able to get someone to drive me down to Houston and get the washer before they moved so I could have a matched set. But, I love my Fridgemore frnt loader.

the lint filter in these and later Maytags was self-cleaning. Somehow, during the spin, the water backwashed and took the lint down the drain. (I am sure that some of the 'Tag experts here can refine that answer, but I think that is basically how it worked.) |

those lint filters are really not effective. as mentioned, I have the model below yours and when I bought mine, I also bought the agitator lint filter and fabric softner cup( like the old style as older models had) never have a problem with lint. Im sure the agitator style lint filter is still available if you want better filtering for your Maytag. I would check into it. Rich |

So, the light does not light up when it is on Super Wash. When I set it for SW, it agitates through the full cycle. I would like a soak/wash action. Any ideas on a fix for this? |

Appnut is pretty much on the money. Super wash is supposed to give you up to 24 mins of wash with the light staying on until the timer advances into the Regular Fabric heavy cycle. Your light not working could be anything from a bad switch and/or neon indicator to a bad contact in the timer (contact 9 on the timer chart). If you need it, I can get you to a service manual with timer charts and wiring diagrams. Energy saver is simple on this one. Your machine has a special >3< coil water valve (the third coil is a additional cold water feed with a reduced flow). On energy saver hot, the hot and the 3rd coil cold feeds are on. On energy saver warm, the hot, cold and 3rd coil cold are on. You'll end up getting a colder warm and a cooler hot. Or so the service manual says... RCD |
