That's it. I'm moving to Minnesota!

God Bless your Eagle Eye!Do you know how long I've waited to SEE one of these???? Thank you SO much for the posting...it's as beautiful as I always thought it would be. Could you post some close ups of the dial and the controls?? I'm just thrilled.

And of course, should you for some inexplicable reason decide that you don't have enough room downstairs to house this prize in the fashion that it deserves...

Up to now, this is all I could make out:

Amazing find to say the least.

Yet another hardly-used washer! And such a rare one, at that. The tub and activator are pristine.

Congrats, Robert, and thanks for the visuals. I'm sure we'll get some sudsy load pics too---or perhaps a bit of video, maybe even?

Wow!! Amazing. I'm still tingling. Before I opened the thread, I kinda thought with the miention of the rotary laundry guide, it was a Laundromat washer. I actually prefer these types of models. Like I'd rather have the WI59 rather than a WCI59, I just prefer being able to make all the selections myself rather than push a key, button, or rotate a selector. I wonder if this was even used 5 times. Absolutely incredible!!!

Robert -

That machine is beautiful. I notice that the infamous cinderblock that newer Filter Flos use to balance the suspension is not used on this machine. Is there a balance weight under there anywhere? There is a round, black object I see in the picture that I don't recognize. Could that be the suspension counterweight? Just curious how they did it back then.

I suspect that this GE either lived in an extremely dry basement, or was in a main floor laundry for some time. Otherwise, that base would be rust city! Leslie I noticed that the pump was original as well - holly crap!

Quite the beauty Robert, glad you decided to bring this post 1960 washer home ;-)

Keep that filter flow'in,

delivered the TOL machine to Nancy Smith across the street and I have never seen one of those since! Two rows of toggles it had.
They took away her 1950 GE with the all white cast iron tub. It was spraying grease all over the clothes.

Seeing that tub out of the machine was how I learned how water got out of the tub in spin! Once I saw that I used to make GE tubs all the time with Dixie Cups and paper punches to punch out the spin holes! And the best were made with all white dixie cups!

I really can't tell Leslie, but all the parts look original.

Yup that is what that is.

do the toggle switches have more than one position
Mike, Water Level and Wash Temp have 3 positions, the others have 2.

I knew I wasn't crazy, they did make a TOL with dual row buttons!

I remember when I first saw that console lit up, I had never seen a lighted control before! It was like being in a nice warm modern diner, no darkness. I was astounded by it, but they never let me get close to it.

This one is a WA950V; second down from TOL

bajaespuma's profile picture
Jetcone, as always, your welcome, but remember, as I keep saying, that page was from one of those old GE "Planner" catalogues and is missing several models, most notably the one Mark has. This was also the first year GE changed the back access to the machines including an indentation in the frame so they could be installed flush to walls, etc. It was a pain in the a** compared to the Maytags because you had to have standpipes and faucets in unusual places such that the water couldn't be shut off after each use unless you were very clever.

Interesting that this machine doesn't have the "V-12" trademark stamped anywhere on it. Might have had a sticker on the cabinet, like the other one that is long gone. This model, like mine was made in 1960, early in the model year. The filter-flo flume, for some reason, was moved over towards the right in the middle of the model year.

Mark in Virginia has a 1961(or bastard 1960)model that is one rung down from this one on the appliance "luxe" scale. I've guessed it to be a WA850V(but with GE, you never know). I hope he posts pictures of it because it is near identical to this model only without the Rotary Fabric Dial and with different dial(illuminated) and panel colors.

I have deduced that there was a similar Rotary Fabric Dial model in the 1960 "Golden Anniversary" line. It would have been model #WA950T. Have only seen a hint of it in a repair manual. Will post an illustration of what it might have looked like.

am ridiculously happy about this find.

Set the prograhhmmme AND press the buzzers! Pure Washerman joy.

Minnie/St Paul may have some old neighborhoods without basements; hence, rare rust-free legs. Wouldn't it be so satisfying if you could find out the story of how this gem remained a gem. Also, kitchen, off-kitchen, and bathroom machines were often covered in a full washer veil.

Still chuckling from Darrel and you at early morning church. Really funny;'D

Have also read that a thin coating of vaseline will keep rust off tools.

Respectfully have you had a chance to work on the spacemates? They are my childhood machines, and im so eager, to see more of them, when u get a chance. When i first saw the GE. I thought it was the "other GE" that turned up this Summer. Best of luck with the GE. Im thinking it must be so difficult to decide what to turn loose, to make room. Congrats arthur

Yup, I put in a brand new NOS pump, new belts, made some adjustments, did the first wash load and the boot ripped lol. I just happen to have a brand new boot for this machine, but the rubber has shrank a bit with age so I'm stretching it out for a few weeks over a Home Depot bucket to make it easier to install.
