Colston benchtop dishwasher. Looks funky.

What experiences does anyone have with using them? Do they do a good job?

Oh yeah, its in Melbourne too (Why is there never anything in Sydney?)

Very cute Dishwasher!
It looks to have a upper Spin Tube for the Upper Rack!
Looks like a lot of fun.
Sad no window.

Wow!

That's a beauty! I wish it were in the UK, but the price is a bit high.

The small Colstons used the 'Roto-Jet' arm for the whole load - there was no spray arm at the bottom of the cabinet. These machines apparently worked well, but were noisy and it was hard to get pans to wash without filling with water.

Colston was formed by Charles Colston, the MD of Hoover UK from 1931 - 1955. The idea was to do for the dishwasher what the Hoover 0307 washing machine did - to provide a luxury machine at a low price. They were bought out by Rolls and ended up becoming part of Ariston.

I'd love one, I try to stick only to Hoover goods now, but it is a relation! Here's the full sized ad from the Web listing, which dates from November 1974. who wouldn't want a bright orange kitchen with four (count 'em) Colston dishwashers in it?

Nice machine, someone needs to get it, a real piece of history, I picked one up a few yrs ago, does work but leaks like a sieve, there are loads of cork seals around the pumps etc...I`d be surprised if that machine didnt leak after sitting around all that time!!!

Heres a few pics, cheers, Mike

Cheers for posting that ebay advert Ash.
Brought memories flooding back to me, as this was the dishwasher one of my grandma's had for many years.

when she passed away it was passed acquired by her daughter (my aunt) replaceing a Rolls version of the same machine.
It went on for a fair number of years before packing up - was hardly used by my grandparents.

I remember it used to have its own metal stand/frame which was on casters - probably stood about 4 foot off the ground.

wonderful to see one again.

a Colston 101 - blooming heck!

cheers
Paul
