Yes kids, that's an antenna bolted to the side of that A612S. I've seen plenty of strange things in this business, but this is a first. One word comes to mind: WHY?

Hey Kenny!

Maybe the owner needed to mount that antenna on something for his CB radio or an FM receiver? I have a high-end stereo set-up in my bonus room and had to mount an antenna like that behind my sofa. Would I ever affix it to a washer? N O

But, I've seen some funny stuff - how many dryers have we seen where the latch prong has broken that holds the door shut, and instead of just buying a new one from a parts store or Sears for a couple bucks, the owner gets a padlock, then BOLTS the lock to the door and cabinet by drilling screw holes into the machine?! GEEZ! :-)

LOL

Maybe it's a lightning rod.

It's possible, Gordon, but it's an automotive antenna.
Togs, if it's that close to the lightning, I'll finish the laundry later.
Greg, internet ready makes sense....I guess....8^)

Maybe there is some connection between lightning and whiter whites!? How does that strike you? I'm sorry,I don't mean to be so negative!I seam to be causing some static here!I was shocked to see an antenna on a washer!

It's a diagnostic wire. Before tearing apart the washer when it won't run, you lick your finger and touch the wire. Helps eliminate wondering if your breaker's ok...

I don't think it's TOL, more like MOL.

If it's a 612, it was right under the TOL, the 712.
