I keep thinking about that late 1970's to early 1980's avacado (green) belt driven Whirlpool washer I saw in a second-hand appliance store several years ago-it was a standard-capacity, 29 inches wide, bed-of-nails manual lint filter, I believe with the plastic lid handle, with the standard wavy-vaned white Surgilator agitator in it. The control console was the slanted type with the L-shaped endcap bottoms where it screws into the washer top. I would've LOVED to get my hands on a dream machine like that! Does anyone out there have pictures of such a washer?

Those machines were seemingly everywhere at one time. I have a couple in white in storage, no pics though. The green ones were the hardest ones to sell when I was repairing/rebuilding them regularly.

When we saw that pic a few weeks ago, did anyone remark about the lid handle? I LOVE it - it is in the same league with the padlock on the dryer door I was talking about....

the control console was different

The control console was different on the one I saw-with the L-shaped console hold-downs at each corner.

Yeah, when I first picked it up, everyone loved that handle! It now has a "normal" handle on it....

thread #6613

The avacado belt-drive Whirlpool washer I was talking about, that I saw looked like that particular one in the Imperial 2006 forum archives under Thread #6613 "Whirlpool Green Washer 1970's Free in Southern CA-the one that the transmission locked up on it and was junked. I saw one identical to that one in a local second-hand appliance store! I wished I had that body-control console style of BD Whirlpool, as badly as JasonL wanted a Kenmore 800 all that time!
