At Tarantula Arms. Got it a few weeks ago and just hooked it up. I got the suds-return hose this week. Here she is in her new home next to the double laundry tubs.

Don't you feel more ecologically minded now that you have a suds-saver? As I've stated before, suds-savers are my favorite type of machine.

Now that's a suds-lock - wow. Leave it to a belt-drive! How many rinses did it take to get rid of it?

(Suds-lock is when the water and detergent get aerated to the point of making the suds into a foam like shaving cream. The pump can't handle foam so the problem gets worse as the machine tries to spin and whips up even more foam.)

She's beautiful Fred! Enjoy her forever. Although did changing the style of drain hoses give her a sex change? She used to be a He in this house lol :-)

My now that's a real suds Whirlpool/Kenmore suds lock if I've ever seen one.

what a "suds-saver" is....

MiHi:

A "suds-saver" washer pumps the wash water out into a tub and the tub holds it for the next wash, thus "saving" the "suds". After the washer finishes the cycle with fresh water for the rinse, you set the machine to "return" the wash water to use again and the machine pumps the water from the tub back into the washer for a second use. You can repeat this until you decide the water is too dirty to use for another load. This type of machine was popular with people who had limited water, such as from a well, or folks who were frugal and saw no reason not to use the wash water again, just like they had done for years with their wringer machine.....

Fred, what fun!! I can't wait to experience this machine in person. I have never seen a suds return before. For some reason they were never big in our area. Our price for water was very low and I think that had lots to do with it. At any rate have lots of fun with your "new" machine.

Nice suds lock Fred! Way to go! SOooooo Kenmore with Tide!

I remember a real good one in the 60's with my Mom's 56 GE the suds were being whipped back up over the tub BLACK ring back into the TUB!!
That was THE ONLY time we ever used Tide, the box was thrown out!

I love that deep "I"m lost in here tub!" in that machine , its almost like mining your laundry to get it out of the tub!

CHEERS
JON & ARTEY!

Fred, that suds-lock shot is over-the-top fabulous, and I love how you shot & got the pebbly streams of returning water swirling through the tiny holes.

Aren't you just crazy about the fun of watching the water whirl in as the agitator strokes. It's really quite magical, don't you think.

The beautiful GOLDEN towels made me think of your $$$$ UK shirts we joked about in Canton. Wonderful. Thanks You, Fred!

Suds-returns forever!

:'D

thanks cehalstead.....

thanks for explaining this. It makes perfect sense. maybe with ecology becoming more and more important someone might come up with another sudssaver someday - you never know.

Video Demo?

Congrats on the success of your classic WP, even with the suds lock. Many more happy suds returns to you! Would be interested in a video demo if you can do one. Am looking forward to collecting more classic Whirlpool demos.--Laundry Shark

Amazing suds-lock. I have only heard about them on this site. Imagine my surprise to create one on the first run-through of the Whirlpool. I will certainly be careful with the Tide in the future. Love this machine. Thanks again Robert. All machines in this house are "she". Just what happens here when they come through the door.
