Happy 60th Birthday Hoover!!!

chestermikeuk's profile picture
To celebrate, a few collectors got together to shake the cobwebs off a few machines, fix up a few more, and enjoy the past 60yrs of Hoover UK Laundry Appliances.....

The first machines was the Hoover 0307 Single Tub wringer washer...a small compact wringer machine with a pulsator spinning disk on the side which created the famous "Hoover Boiling Water Action"...

Hey Guys

Never in 1000,000 years did I think id get to see a 3203 yet alone play with one !! :).

Those extra 3" make it look HUGE ( no naughty comments please lol)!!

I was most surprised its cold fill only - the H at the end of the models stands for Hot(and cold) fill apparently.. .

It was great to meet Paul and Matthew and obviously to see everyone else again :)

And obviously a big thanks to Mike for being a GREAT Host :)

Looks like you all had an amazing day!!! When I first moved to scotland there was an empty house with an A3203, the house got demolished and the machine was trashed......what a sin!!!

Mike, you have an amazing collection of washing machines and vacuums......next time Iam in Birkenhead visiting relatives I just might pay you a visit to drool over all your machines!!

Looks like a great time - we're certainly going to have to have a convention at Mike's soon!

Good to see a shot of the whole group too - not just the backs of heads blocking washer windows!

my turn now to thank a wonderful host.

Many thanks mike for putting on such a fantastic weekend for us all.

great for me to meet some new people and show off my D6018 dryer a bit - even though the styling was slightly different, it did look great sat on top of your A3060 and in the great setting of your kitchen.

Was wonderful to be able to see so much vintage stuff and to see all the smiles on the faces of the people there.

I think I was able to detect a slight smitten-ness with Mathews 3203H. I was so pleased that we were able to get that matching pair together - the 3203H and 3020 looked superb side by side.

So much to say and so little time.

Thankyou Mike.
the highest of regards.
Paul

Thanks everyone for making it a great celebration, and for all of your comments & e-mails, its just great to be able to do so and get the machines back to life as well!!!

PaulC, Birkenhead,so near, well next time just phone & bring your laundry!!!Oh dont mention trashed and machines in the same sentance!!! we had one in the Domestic Science rooms at school, loved hearing it spin!!!

Terry, we did have a grand time, need you here next time, the coffee is never as good as yours!!!

Hi Greg, would be great to see you on this side, then you can experience a whole load of steam rising from a row of twinnys on a boil wash???

Paul & Rob, thanks for the organising!!! the dryer is sutch a stunning colour "Winchester Blue" I wonder if the "Royal Windsor Laundry" had these colour machines!!!

Who would have thought it all started with this little machine, the humble Hoover 0307 Wringer Washer...!!!

Wow!

I'm gutted to not have been able to make it, but I take comfort in the knowledge that it looks like everyone had a fantastic time, and lets face it, I doubt very much it'll be the last meeting!

It's incredible to see the Tumble dryer and the KMDL together, what a shame they had to part, but who knows when more might turn up! Mike, I'm glad your slope front breathes again! Was she put through a cycle over the weekend?

and seeing all those tubs full of suds, the local reservoir must have taken a battering, hehehe! I did run the HMDL on saturday, and I'd swear that it was doing the traditional Hoovermatic Splat even more so than usual! It *must* have known ;-)

Paul

Being pedantic for a second lol....

Its a 3203 without a H ;)

It was you that explained the H denoted hot/cold fill ;).

On that subject I was VERY surprised to see it was cold fill only- whats new is old and all that.......

Thanks once again to Mike for being a GREAT host- it really was a fantastic weekend :).

Indeedy Seamus - I stand corrected.

Have been sifting through my Hoover piccies today and dealt with the 3203H and got confused.
Mathews machine is model 3203.

I attach below an advert for model 3203H (H for HOT) - visually identical to the 3203.

Cheers
Paul

That Keymatic may be a truly unique machine, nobody is aware of another example still existing of either that or the standard Automatic variant. The extra 3" width over a standard UK auto make it seem huge!.

There was space to squeeze through by the stacked set(some of us had to squeeze more than others lol)!!

What a great contribution to the birthday of the Hoover washing machine, you should all get awards from Hoover for all your efforts.

All the machines look excellent, and yes i would sit up all night and watch them going through their programmes.

The advert for the keymatic with the dogs is so upper class i love it.......wow

You all look great and happy I am pleased that mike is able to provide such an event.

Best wishes

Thanks for the Factory Pics! I love Factory Pics!

There are soo many there behind waiting to be shipped, there must be some more in existence somewhere, what years were they made? And does Hoover still make F/L's today?

I always fantazise that somewhere is a dusty old warehouse full of boxed new obsolete machines no one knows what to do with since they are all old model years so they can't be sold!

Looks like you lads and blokes and chaps are havin' a fine old time.

I looked at the fabulous flickrstream and I notice Seamus standing near what looks to be a showroom Hoove TT. YES? You're still makin' them?

Happy Birthday Hoover UK, so wish you were still here in America.

God, how we need a Hoove TT boil wash here. If I get money again, can I buy one and have it shipped?

What an exciting stream; loved the one with all the TT's in a row, lids open and almost talking, and that hand-wrung wringer--what a cute toy. Does it heat?

Here's a shot of the classic American TT, the Easy Spin for you & the boys. A big mother, she's about twice the size of her more automatic sister.

See the link for todays Hoover offerings...

Sadly only the 6kg models, washer dryers and tumble dryers are asembled in Merthyr(along with their Candy stablemates), the others are Italian.

Id rate todays Hoovers as average- defiantly better than the current Merloni/Hotpoints.

Greetings from The Vintage Hoover Emporium!

I never really post on AW.org, since my interest in washers is mainly aesthetic, but I just wanted to say thanks to Mike for putting on such a wonderful weekend. One which was over all too quickly!

The food and hospitality were perfect - you couldn't expect better from a 5-star hotel! And of course, it was great to meet up with all my old friends, and it was lovely to meet Matthew and Paul, too :)

I've started to edit together and upload some of the video footage I filmed with Alistair - a lot of it is vacuums, but there is a video of the wonderful Keymatic 3203! As always, they're best viewed in 'high quality':

Hey Jon, yes we just about managed, washers everywhere, garage, kitchen & middle room, vacs all over the hallway & other rooms!!! madness but fun!!!Could this have been the Keymatic you used in the Isle of Wight all those yrs ago???

Steve, yes its a learning curve for us as well I`m just finding out as well about all the nuances and how they work!!!

Mickey, yes twinnies galore, I think just about one of every mian model now!!! not as well made as the Easy with all that procelain, but hey just as much fun to use!!! Dont ask how many times we got soaked through forgetting about the lids or when the Hoovers start to pump, you could use them as crop sprayers...LOL

Seamus, just think those machines in the factory pics could be one we have now...weird!!!

Gary, yes a few of the gang kept creeping into the kitchen to listen & watch!!! we filmed a few programmes complete...only to have to do them again when in our excitement one of us would get excited about what it was doing!!!...LOl

Heres the latest of the Hoover range!!!

Those video's are great and feature my all time favourite vacuum....Electrolux 170. My Mum, Aunty and Grandma had the 160, my Nan had the 155 ( think thats what it was, green hood and handle release at the side of the machine ), she and my other Aunty then got the 170. As you can see we were an Electrolux family!

Well-then-there-now...

...what a question! I'd have to say Hoover's first washer - the 0307(?) I love it's simplicity and stylish compact-ness. And as always, 'the older, the better' is the general rule for my collection! I do like the original Keymatic, too - they're quirky enough in form and function to hold my interest.

But we shouldn't be talking about this! SHHH, my parents will hear, and they'll be after your blood if you start me collecting washers as well - we've already got vacs coming out of our ears!

Paul - thanks, glad you like the videos! Yes, I'd never used the Lux 170 before, but I was quite impressed - a bit modern for my collection, but it was fun to play with! We've always been a Hoover-upright family, since my great-grandparents bought their first vac in 1935. True to form, my collection must be 85% Hoover!

That was the 3rd model of Keymatic- the first non slope front version. Not sure on the exact production dates but the serial number of Matts dates his example to July 67.
