I was trolling the Kijiji classifieds this morning and noticed this Inglis washer/dryer set! It is supposed to be working (I am suspicious of that gap in the washer lid, though). The good news is it that it is located 20 minutes away from the apartment in Montreal... I'd still need a truck to get it to the house in Ogden, but what the heck!
Now, guess who is going to flip out when I tell him about what I found???

They don't look to bad on the outside. I hope they work, I would love to see a video of the washer.

Jim

Paul -

Don't worry about the gap in the top. These come unlatched all the time when moving them, and are designed to pop out when pulled up on from the lid well. This is necessary for regular service in this area.

Just press down on the right corner and it should snap back - rather loudly.

Those are AWESOME looking machines!

Gordon

Absolutely beautiful!! I'd say early to mid 1960s. Looks like the dryer is a 2-speed model!!

Awesome set. Congrats on getting them, and I hope they work okay. I would love to see a photo of the tub. Is this a self cleaning filter model, or does it have the manual brush type lint filter?

Good luck,
James

Hubby was less than supportive about the idea of getting them, alas... I am still going to try and get to see them before the end of the week (but he knows damn well that I will probably not walk away from them!!). I think they're worth the pursuit!!

Oh that's rare to see a matched set of vintage Inglis, very nice.

Eddy, would I be correct in assuming these were similiar to Whirlpool machines of that era? I've only ever gotten up close to a couple of vintage Inglis machines and the first thing that struck me was the lint filter and the agitator seemed identical to Whirlpool models.
I am waiting to hear back from the seller - hope to snag them next week (hubby is SO not happy, but I figure if I get him something really nice for Christmas....)

And they're sold!

To me!!! I went to see them last night and well, I just had to. They were $125 for the set and I didn't even argue.
So, they are 42 or 43 years old according to the owners; the washer has a newer pump and water inlet valve; dryer is all original. Tubs for the washer and dryer are clean and not rusty - no chips or snags! The tub colour is a pale grey with light flecks and the washer agitator is very clearly a Whirlpool-style one. If I remember correctly, these Inglis washers drained the tub then started to spin (the GE's I am more familiar with drained and spun simultaneously). The dryer has four heat settings - I haven't seen that in ages!
The cabinets are really nice, too; no dents, chips or scratches! That loose top frame is because a clip is missing - I am sure that I can still find one of those somewhere. The only other visible flaw is the dryer door latch is broken - again, I am hoping that I can scare one up easily enough. I can't wait to get them to Ogden and hook 'em up! I will make every attempt to get a video of them, too. Oh, and apparently the control panels light up, too!!
Sorry to gush, but wow, this is my first vintage washer/dryer set!!

I am thinking I have to make Eggs Benedict for brunch this Sunday. He's not real happy, but he didn't murder me. Yet...
