I'm embarrassed to ask this question, but I just got a 1966 Filter-Flo home and I'm trying to take it apart to see what's wrong and I've been stymied by an old-style plastic hub covering the bottom of the drive post and the washbasket nuts. The ones I'm used to have a tab at the top that releases it. This one has two square holes and two tabs on the side and I've tried pressing them in and prying them out and have had no luck. I don't want to break the part but if I keep prying with the screwdriver the plastic's going to weaken. Anybody???

This may sound silly but I had the same issue. There are two locking tabs on the hub on opposite sides of each other. There really is no way (in my experience) to be able to get it off without some minor damage. I took two large flathead screwdrivers and wedged them under each tab. Bend the tabs outward while pulling upward and it should come off. I'd recommend getting the newer hub after that. Those come off so much easier with the press of a button basically. Jon |

Jon, It worked. Basically I used two flathead screwdrivers simultaneously and then got a little p-ssed off and went for it. Probably all the rust and calcium and junk was holding it on and the anger cut through that. I bought this machine for parts, so I didn't want to start by destroying the first things I touched. We'll see what happens when I clean it all up and reattach it. Now all I have to do is lever off the activator spline from the drive post. |
