I was wondering around the yard at the South Tacoma St. Vincent de Paul (which really is an amazing place - lots of fun vacuum stuff there) when I found this interesting little Penncrest "Semi Automatic", complete with "work & play" option.

Of course, I had to buy it. Here are some pre-cleaning photos...

Insides. Once I cleaned it up, the washer part worked well. Had to fill it with a bucket (no hose), but other than that, it was fine. The spinner, however, makes noise, but doesn't move.

If we can get the spinner to work, we are going to install it in our camper. Not that we really NEED a washer in the camper, but that never stops us.

Hi Dan, well what a find, get her cleaned & filled up and away you go FunTime Washing!!!, spinner is probably just a belt, always amazed me how semi-automated the wash side is and all those options for rinsing as well...

Happy washing, Mike

Toshiba! Loads of fun! Neat that the "hat" is still there for the spinner.

So how is this thing supposed to fill and then rinse? It looks like maybe there is a place for a supply hose on the inside of the tub, but no hose. Also, if there is a hose, how is the hose regulated?

Or is it supposed to be filled with a bucket, like I did?

Lastly, the drain hose is unwell. Is there a way to get a new one?

Drain and fill...

If it's like my Maytag A50, you hook a hose to the sink faucet and fill it that way. The temp is of course controlled by the faucet. The drain hose on mine either goes to the sink for drainage OR it pokes into the wash tub thru a hole in the top so the soapy water returns from the spin tub to the wash tub for more washing... On the A50, there is a knob that controls a diverter valve so you can choose to drain the wash or spin tub. Your drain hose looks like a generic SSD-6 universal drain hose. The original must have fallen apart or wasn't long enough for the first owner...

Very cool, Dan..

I had one like this that I bought brand new from JCP about 1971.
It worked really well.
It came with a hose that attached to the faucet for fill. You just put it in the tub like a wringer washer.
I used it for about 4 years with no problems.

Thanks for the pictures.

Gram's Toshiba had a standard sink coupler. Believe it fills the tub from the rear left corner. There is a water level float in the grating on the rear right side and hi/med/lo level selector on the control panel. I think the main automatic cycle is a 15 minute max wash with 4 rinses...?
