Here is one for the books.

This has to be the oldest Automatic Simpson I have ever seen. I have an advertisement at home that features this machine and it is dated 1962.

I have emailed the seller to ask for a money shot.

Surely someone here would want it!

I remember this machine

One of my friends mother had this machine and I remember it in the late 1950's. Fully automatics were very scarce then and I recall only the Bendix front loaders around the same time. There were lots of twin tubs and wringer washers. It is similar to the 1950's Hotpoint machines in some of our US friends collections. It had an unforgetable gurgling sound while it agitated. Yes I hope one of our Aussie collectors gets this one. Still works - pretty remarkable after more than 50 years.

"The deep rinse cycle doesn't work..."

I wonder if this works like a Kelvinator, where the machine overflows without agitation for an eternity...

Strathmore

And yet another Simpson pops up. I grew up in the suburb next to Stratmore, it may belong to the parents of one of the kids I went to school with. I think this is the automatic for which the semi-automatic model has the black butterfly wing knobs. My relatives still have it in their holiday house at Rosebud. Take a good look at the money shot......agitator.....I think (as antiquated as the concept was) the slide over plastic sleeve is missing. You can see what I mean as you can see in the last Simpsomatic posted by a fellow Aussie. Still looking for a Healing Thor, Tri-matic, semi-automatic or the La Ronde.

My gran had a semi-automatic that my father gave to some friends in 1983 after she passed away. It weighed a ton.

They do have a lovely sound though. My mothers fluid drive was just lovely to listen to (I think Leon has an example of it too) which she gave to some of my friends when it started to get a tad awkward with the hot water inlet.....

Yes, Ash. i was the highest bidder.

I really didn't want to have to pay that amount of money for it, but considering its the very first Simpson Automatic, I knew i would be kicking myself in the years to come if i never came across another one.

It should be in Brisbane by the end of the month along with a Westinghouse Laundromat.

Well congratulations on a fight well fought!

Even if you have to spend some time recovering financially...

Tell us about the Westinghouse.

The Westinghouse Laundromat

The Westinghouse is model LAM1650SHD. 2 speed, self heat, 1971 model. Apparently in good working order, but just needs new hoses.

I'm pretty sure it still has the housing for the control panel light, but i think they actually discontinued the light's by this stage.

It has the spiral ramp agitator and indexing tub.

Don't worry gansky,

I will take plenty of pics when she arrives home. The seller is apparently wrapping it in bubble wrap for me for the journey home!
