Hi Paul, welcome to the club, great memories you are telling us about the first Servis front loading washing machine, first produced in 1972, it took a 9lb load, hot & cold fill, 740rpm, with a slower 460 spin for delicates etc, also it had the drip dry button which was "No spin" at all, Had a vitreous enamel inner & outer drum with kewl blue baffles!!! is this the model you remember??? |

Yes Mike, That is the very same machine my mum had. It was fab, loved the square door, the dark drum, and deep rinses. Wish servis would bring out another model like this one |

Hi Paul, yes it would be a fine laundry day if these washers where made again with the same quality!!!the quality of the vitreous enamelling is superb as well as the colourways!!! Hard to think that for its size it took a 9lb load, the same as the 27inch wide keymatics!!! heres with doors shut....the bendix washer sound interesting, I`ll search for a pic |

Hi Mike. Another thing I remembered, on my mums machine it had a glass porthole, yet a friend of my mums had a plastic porthole. |

Hi Nick, Ohhh its depressing seeing the old factory now all shut and up for sale!!!!, Did your family have Servis machines then, would love to hear any experiences!!!!.... I think I am partial and biased towards Servis of old as its the washers I grew up with, my parents still have only had three Servis washers in all 49 yrs of marriage, Servis MK2 twinny until 1978, then Servis SlimLine 308 autos set and then in 1988 a 6033 Quartz set which is still running!!! Heres the inside of the dryer drum, galvanised steel, 9lb load, "Halo of Heat" elements round the front, with large fan at the back , drawing the high efficiency air flow through the clothes, had thermostats on the exhaust for temperature control!!! |

Where ever is that copy writer now...(this has a touch of Jon Jetcones copy) he`s definately needed...talk about tell it like it is...LOl Is the 504 toploader the Maytag series or the UK design?? do maytag do the 210d arc?? "Silent Medic for Germ Free Washing" lovin it!!! "Pigeon Pair" how very dare he, of all the words to use!!!! is that Aussy slang for something???? Am loving the description of oil filled shocks, bearings as in Jet engines (Yup) then he goes and blows it by comparing it to a "Ford Escort" oh my....!!!! Servis Super 10 twinny, couldnt work out the 8lb capacity then saw the poly tub description, are these tubs deeper / bigger than the UK models?? Fashion tones of Mod Yellow or advocado green..... Well i think he could add more than a dash of colour to some of todays adds...Lol Hey Leon , great adds, many thanks for posting, but the way stuff is finding you at the moment I hope its not Tooo long before we see these "in the flesh" Cheers, Mike |

Is or was a fairly normal description used around white goods...normally applied to same size but seperate unit fridges and freezers where they would be placed next to each other as a 'pair'. Both handles would end up 'in the middle' (so RHS say for fridge and LHS for freezer) which gave the effect of a large American side by side fridge freezer but with more space, easier repairability (separate components) and easier to move too... There is an example on the bottom right of page 3 ($2599) of the catalogue in the link CLICK HERE TO GO TO ronhic's LINK |

Hey Mike, The "504" is the Maytag design which have the 210 degree washing arc at 63 osc a minute. The UK designed machines were superseded in 1973. The advert came from a Price Service catalogue which repairers and retailers could subscribe to from the late 1950's to the 1980's....these catalogies show EVERY appliance on sale in Australia. I now have the Washing Machine section, plus some dishwashing pages of the years 1961 - 1978, with the exception of 1973, which doesn't exist in any library archive in Oz. JUST for you!!!.....i will create another thread and show what Wilkins Servis sold in Australia in Washing Machines from when the first UK designed machines were made here...how does that sound? Cheers Leon |
