This might not be the area for this question, but I am thinking long term. I have a Maytag MAH7500AWW with the touch screen controls. I obtained it in 2001. The bearings gave out and the service contact that I purchased will not repair it. I have not known anyone that has owned one with the touch screen, so I'm wondering if I should keep it in the basement and repair it on my own or should I just have them take it away when they deliver my new GE front load washer? They are coming tomorrow.

If you have the room, I'd keep the Tag.

Did you get the alien door GE? Does it have the auto dispense? Post pictures when you get them.

I'd keep it.

You can do a bearing job on her without having to replace the tub using Maytag parts. Maytag's >official< fix is to replace the tub. It takes a little more time than just slamming a tub in it but it's a lot cheaper and I've done it with the outer tub still in the machine. One of my short list items to aquire is a MAH7500 set.

After reading your posts, I decided to keep her. The men that delived my new GE also said it would be worth the fix by obtaining the kit with the bearings. They said too, that Maytay's fix was the easy way out. No need to replace the whole tub. I found a few sites that show how to do it. Yes, I did get the GE with the "alien door." It's concave like. I should have pics within a week.

The one I call the Alien Door

iheartmaytag's profile picture
is the one with the Triangle shaped door, the Profile series.
I looked at one at Sears that had the auto dispense system. $1300 for the machine and another $650 for the dispense drawer.

Are these Samsung Sourced machines?

It's exactly this reason I ask myself "Then what good are these aftermarket service contracts if they will not cover a major repair like this???"

you know if my washer had a window, I would never come out of the basement.

I am still curious about the smartdispense, and the Stain inspector. If anyone can tell me about these I would appreciate knowing how you like them, and how the stain inspector works.

Sorry for the hijack.

The service contract people told me, the washer was 8 years old and the total cost to repair was about $750 to $800 and based on the contract they have the option not to repair and only offer a replacement of equal value based on age??! Well the Maytag I had was top of the line with the touch screen. GE offered their low end front washer. I said no and we went back and forth for two days until we agreed to the one I got. I did save about $200 off the retail price (I check around and when I told them I could purchase one for less money then what they were offering, they adjusted the model and price.) but you are correct the contracts now don't cover what they used too.

I've always called them the 'GetaLife Door' because if all you have to do with your time is watch the clothes tumble thru the window, you need to get a life...
