So this weekend I finally decided to re-paint the Maytag A50. It's been a great little machine and I've been enjoying it a lot. The mechanicals are wonderful but I got tired of looking at that neglected white cabinet. All the little scratches and scrapes made the little guy look dingy even when he was all cleaned up. I was going to re-spray him white, but white isn't one of my favorite colors, and quite honestly, I was somewhat disappointed that this machine wasn't a different color from the get go. It took 2 days to complete, but I can honestly say I'm VERY pleased with the outcome here. The color is Krylon "Bauhaus Gold" and it's a sort of Goldenrod Yellow color. My color choices were limited, I wanted a Burnt Orange but they didn't have the shade I wanted in cans so I went out on a limb with this color. It certainly brightens things up I can say. I still need to find a replacement top for the machine though, it's scuffed a lot as well, but now the little guy's ready to wow the crowd. I hope you all enjoy! It was a lot of work, especially working in a small kitchen/shop, this would have been so much easier in a garage... -Tim CLICK HERE TO GO TO macboy91si's LINK |

I would never touch my precious Avacado Hoover. The Hoover is in great condition, I just can't use it a whole lot in my small building due to cranky neighbors, she makes a lot of noise and the floors are thin (I'm upstairs). I used off the shelf stuff from the local hardware store. Wet sanded the original finish with scuff pads and 1000 grit sandpaper (600 would have been perfect for this). 3 coats of cheap primer followed by wet-sanding with 1000 grit sandpaper again. Lots of coats of the Krylon spray paint, it's a thin color and required a lot of coats (7-9), still a little thin near the edges for my perfection but I'm good with it. After the paint cures for a little longer, I'll put a good coat of Turtle Wax on it and it'll be set, it's currently just paint, no clearcoat and no wax yet. Cost was about $50 for all the supplies. |
