Currently in the basement, next to the Cabrio, there is a Haier XQB60, that handles my shop towels, car cleaning rags, and misc. stuff that I don't want to put into the Cabrio and make it nasty. The Haier, has been acting a bit funny lately. It takes forever to drain and wont reach full spin speed (it usually does but sometimes it doesn't) which leads me to believe that it needs a new drain pump and control board. I work at Sears and I was thinking about getting a Shredmore, but I really dont want that cloth shredding agitator stroke. I started looking at the GE washers with Hydrowave. The cheapest machine with Hydrowave at Sears was $400ish. Not what I really want to spend on a washer that will be used for dirty rags. The regular GE wash system is just like the shredmores... short and fast... GRRRR

Wht stinks is that Whirlpool makes the most of the Kenmores, Maytag, Amana, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Roper and a few others....they ALL have the craptastic Short fast cloth shredding stroke! So that only leaves the GE machines that have the slow long stroke in the price range Im looking at.

Hotpoint! I went to Lowes and saw a hotpoint with the straight vane agitator and Hydrowave for $370! w00h00! Do they have it in stock... Of course not. None of the stores in the area do either.... GRRRR To order it, it wouldn't be here until March 4th... not cool... I try Home Depot, they dont have it either and was informed that they no longer offer store pick up...

I then remember that Sears sells Hotpoint! Its special order only, so I have to search for the Sears number with the manufactures model number. In about 10 minutes I find it!

I price matched it to Lowes, got 10% of the difference, and my discount! It will be here on Friday the 27th!!! A little sooner than Lowes, and I got my discount!

The best part is that it has the "Flexcare" agitator, which is just a straight vane not that crappy corkscrew that every WP product has. It should be very dramatic with the Hydrowave system!

There will be plenty of pics/video to come once I get it home!

I got the BOL GE Hydrowave washer for $353 and it came with the crappy-ass dual action agitator. Of course, I replaced it with the single piece agitator and let me say, it's a fun machine!!! Does the Hotpoint have the ribbed tub?

VWSR4160GWW that's the model that I purchased... I dont think that it has the ribbed tub. I think its just the flat plastic tub. I didn't see the exact same model in person, I saw the non hydrowave hotpoint.

It's always exciting to get a new washer, even if it will not be your daily driver. I am also a fan of 'vintage agitation'; not into the rapid, short-stroke variety, no matter how good the rollover.

If my beloved, much-maligned Frigidaire TL'er ever gives up the ghost, I'll definitely replace it with a GE Hydrowave. I don't have local access to Speed Queen, and those three brands represent the final frontier for longer, slower-stroke agitation.

Let us know how you like the Hydrowave action, and, of course, we want photos, if possible!

Whoops, forgot to ask a question:

Does your GE have dumbed-down hot water, as do the newest Frigidaire TL models? I'm so glad I purchased mine before that dreaded feature came into play.

At any rate, I would think you'd like unadulterated hot water for washing greasy rags.

GE Washers

Do all GE washers have the hydrowave wash action regardless of the type of agitator? I am moving into a apartment with a new set of GE's and I believe the washer will have the Flex care agitator.

Not necessarily, GE still has the short fast strokes on the lower end models. The Hydrowave agitator is known as the "Gentle Power" agitator and the lower end machines with the short fast strokes have the "Flexcare" agitator.

Hydrowave Agitator

GE doesn't offer their machines with the Flexcare and hyrdowave. Only on the Hotpoint models. I can't wait to get it :D

IF you are only going to use this washer for your "shop rags / towels, etc" WHY spend that much money for a NEW washer?? Why not just buy a used one through Craigs list or the Salvation army or a used appliance store???

I have found some great deals on Craigs list (believe me I know, just look at my collection!! LOL) I recently bought a 2 1/2 year old Frigidair Affinity FL washer ($650 new) for $75 and there is nothing wrong with it!!! Granted this is the exception rather then the rule, but you can still find a great used machine for $50 - $100.

Old post, but I'm new here. I have a 2014 GE "hydrowave" washer and I replaced the "Gentle Power" agitator with the "FlexCare" one. So far works really well.

Does anyone know if there are other single action agitators that will fit the coupler on the new GE's? I like the SpeedQueen flex vane and the bottom of it looked similar. Just not sure if it will fit.

Thanks!
