Well, now that I have a wringer workin in the laundry room, I have raise the bar and am starting on my first automatic restoration. Luckily it is a simple yet BEAUTIFUL Maytag that previously belonged to my aunt. She knew that I wanted it and when it started to leak she decided to give it to me. (YAY!!!) It is an A208S (Sudsaver!!!) and well, the first step besides cleaning is to get the front panel off so I can have easy access to everything right? Well, I have removed the bolts and it sways kinda like a doggy door, but it won't budge!!! It won't go down or out! What do I do?

Re: Maytag Front Access Panel:

Hi! Pulsator, try grabbing the Front Access Panel on either side around midway and pull it out from Bottom to Top "kind of like a pivot movement" that should dislodge the Top Clips and allow the Front Access Panel to be released and away from the Cabinet. There are 2-Bolts, 1-each on both Front Sides {inside corners} attaching the Top to the Sides of the Cabinet, that you will then have to take out and pull the Top of the Cabinet forward a little ways to dislodge the rear from Catch-Hook like holding Brackets on the Rear of the Cabinet. You should then be able to lift the Top up towards the Rear of the Cabinet, to even be able to access almost everything else below from then on, except the Water Inlet Valve, which would have to be removed {if necessary} from the Rear side of the Cabinet.

I hope that this helps you with getting into the inside of the Washer. Good-Luck with the Restoration.

Peace and Happy Maytag Washing, Steve

YAY!!! I got the front off and the top and looked through and ran it a few times. I found 2 possibly 3 problems so far... 1.) The water level switch does not work right, so it just fills and fills until I press the different buttons a few times, then it seems fine (kinda) so that will need to be replaced. 2.) The brake SCREECHES when it stops, I can hear it echo in our neighborhood (machine outside currently) and I live out in the country and am surrounded by farms! (What do I do to fix this?) Possible 3rd.) When I change it to "save suds" it makes a very loud almost buzzing sound as it pumps. (Is it supposed to do that?) Any help is greatly appreciated, pics will come eventualy when I get the chance to clean the machine.

Re: Maytag Problems:

Before doing anything, you might want to check out all of the Wiring, to make sure that everything is plugged in properly and check around the Water Level Switch, to make sure there isn't something that might have possibly caused a blockage around the water level control actuation part that goes into the housing that causes the Fill Stop and Agitation Starting.

I'm not familiar with the workings of Suds-Saver's, but I know there are several here who have worked on them and can help you further with that part of needed attention. If I remember correctly, someone told me with a similar Solenoid "Buzzing" problem of a different nature, to spray a little WD-40 where the Part's come together, when the Solenoid is activated. That should allow the Solenoid to operate quitely again. {be sure to unplug the washer first} and try to wipe any access off from around the electrical contacts.

It sounds like the Brake Pads are worn, or possibly something out of alignment, which will be some extra checking to see for sure what's causing the "Screetching" when Breaking.

You might be able to push the Water Level Button's several times slightly fast, but carefully {back and forth between them} if the Washer has been sitting idle for quite some time and possibly get all of them activating properly, at least it is worth a try. I had that happen to a Friend's Water Temp's once, after I had replaced the Water Valve, it was still having the same problem, until I pushed the Buttons back and forth, changing the Selection's. I figured out that there might have been some Dirt on one of the Contacts and the excessive movement seemed to correct the problem. The Washer has been operating properly ever since and it's been way over 1 or 2 year now and lots of Laundry being Washed.

"Good-Luck" I hope that this helps you, with getting these problems taken care of and getting the Washer operating again.

Peace and Happy Maytag "Sudz-Saving" Days,Steve

After filling the tub does the washer begin to agitate but keeps filling or does it just keep filling without the motor starting? If the machine starts to agitate but keeps filling, the water valve is bad. If it fills but overflows without agitating, the pressure swtich or the tube going to it is bad or plugged up. Take SactoTeddyBears advice first before going further. Good luck.

There is a way my dad showed me to put a few drops of oil on the brake to quiet it a bit.Takes an oil bottle with a flexable spout, like a turbine oil bottle. It goes over the top lip of the brake assy, just a few drops.
