My church is looking to renovate the kitchen and remove a 1955 Commercial type universal dishwashing unit. There are side troughs with a sink and high faucet. It is in working condition, altogether a good 10 feet long with all the parts. Would you know anyone I could contact that might be interested in such a unit. Your website is the closest I have come to with an interest in vintage appliances. We have the original manual from Universal Dishwashing Machinery Co. Nutley10, New Jersey. I would appreciate any information. Thank-you, Doreen Borstock (Long Island, NY)

Imagine rolling that up to your kitchen sink. I think it would be fun!

I have used a Hobart commercial dw very similar to that. Our parochial school has the one that was salvaged out of our old school building in 1983. The dw that our school has is from the mid 60's?, that baby can peel barnacles off a ship. That machine still has very powerful wash action after all these years, and uses plenty of water to do a great job.

I used a modern version of this machine back in the days of summer camp! Except both sides and the front opened when you lifted the lever that opened them! It took just over 30 seconds for a complete wash and rinse! It was set at 174 degrees Fahrenheit! I LOVED that dishwasher! Load up the rack, spray everything off, then slide it in, yank down that great big lever and WHOOSH! lol

What's wrong with this picture?

Is your church looking to spend money just for the heck of it?
Yes the machine you pictured is old and obsolete, but I bet it works like a charm!
There are so many of these vintage(never say old) machines in situations just like your church's. They are used rarely and are cared for meticulously by gentle men and women who care about things that belong to them.

That Hubbell booster down below is still viable as they still have parts available for it. In fact, most Friendly's restaurants use the same style boosters!

If you replaced that machine, you would be getting something that fits in the same foot print as there are industry standards throughout the world for commercial dishwashers. You could keep your current tables on each side or have them cut down and they would fit right into a new machine.

Don't swap it out for an undercounter machine as it will not have the capacity the upright one has and you would be doing alot of bending and lifting if you had to wash dishes for a cuole of hundred people at a time.

I would still say keep what you have until it absolutley needs the last rites and then just get a nice AM15 or similar machine.
If you decide to purchase a used one, Please, Please make sure you call the manufacturer and find out if is a current production unit and if parts are available for it and for how long they will be available. Also make sure you get a unit that matches the electrical capabilities of the build it will be in.

Hope this helps.
