I'm trying to identify the make/model of dryer that we had when I was growing up. I believe it was a Westinghouse from the 50s or early 60s because it had the slant front. The door was sqare with a round window and there was a metal push button latch on the top frame of the door that you pushed down to open the door. There was a control panel at the rear of the top. On the right side was the timer dial and to the far left was a small knob for heat temperature selection. I think it had 2 choices - regular & air fluff. With all the postings I've seen on this site I have still yet to see the same model that this one was. I'm assuming it was a Canadian model since I am from Canada.

Gary, is it possible it was a re-badged Westinghouse?? My first guess would be Viking (Eaton's sold a lot of Westinghouse models under the Viking brand name in the late 50s and early 60s - the top-loading portable dishwasher that I grew up with was a VikingHouse!).

I'm pretty sure that the nameplate on the dryer was Westinghouse. BTW, the control panel was also slanted at the same angle as the front of the machine.

I think I have seen something like this in one of my old do-it-yourself books; the control panel at the back rings a bell. I'll do some digging when I get back down to the house in Ogden on the weekend and see if I can find the picture I am thinking of.

I hunted through my old books and the Westinghouse dryer I remembered seeing in them was the typical slant-front from the mid-50's where the controls were on the front of the cabinet above the door. Sorry!!

Just posted on Craigslist from another thread, but it sounds a lot like what you were describing. Picture is bad, but you can just see that Control Panel...

That is a little more like it in that the door looks similiar. There appears to be the lint filter on the top left and I don't believe that our dryer had a removable lint filter. I remember the top being completely smooth and one solid piece. I wish I could see what the controls looked like in that pic.

How about this one??

It was just posted on the board - it's for sale in the Philadelphia area. It sounds a lot like what you were describing, Gary...

Nope that's not it either. The controls on ours were on the panel at the top rear of the dryer. The panel was about 6-8 inches in height. On the right side was a large knob for the timer and on the left side was a tiny knob for the heat setting. Also the door was more like the one in your post #339050.

It could have been a Westinghouse made Montgomery Ward Signature dryer. But I think theirs had a rectangular window.

Since I am in Canada where we don't have Montgomery Ward, I doubt that would be it.
