I know guys aint it just fab news! I saw them not long after they were posted, it was all I could do to actually breathe and get my words out to those I spoke to on the phone. Fabulous news that there were still some mega treasures and even machines I never knew existed that can be preserved for some time to come not to mention how relieved I am they do exist. Great news for the education of it all and bridging extensive history gaps. Rob |

It is not at all unusual for any company that produces something, to keep "samples" from each production year. For nothing else it serves as a visual record for various departments to refer back to when designing and or producing future models/products. Regarding "Urban Exploration" Groups: Have them on this side of the pond as well. Their exploits can be seen on various Interent sites and cable television programs. Mainly concern themselves with "exploring" old and often abandoned factories, hospitals, mental insitutions, and the like. Yes, more often than not these places are out of bounds, and if caught such persons can face criminal charges. However the most danger comes from running into various persons such as the homeless and serious vandals (looking for anything they can get their hands on to sell, up to and including copper piping, wiring and so forth). I find it hard to believe that in such a short time the factory can be in such a bad state. Weird Especially when you consider there is some office staff still based there ? |

Have officially heard back from Hoover tonight confirming that: "Thank you for allerting us to the breech of security, ....and that the wish to procure the vintage Hoover Appliances is a polite "No"....... we wish to keep the machines for our vintage historical collection" Which I am in agreement with as much as they would be great to see & use....I truley believe that a company like Hoover needs to recognise the products it has designed & produced in the past in order to move forward into the future.... For the record, Hoover Merthyr consists of 3 factories, the Art Decor original factory of 1948, a second early seventies factory that links to the original by a bridge...and a third one built later which is on a business park a few miles up the road from the original...this is the DragonPark, Abercanaid site, where some of the machines where..... so there we have it....safe & sound for future posterity!!!! |
