my favorite way to spend an evening off, listening to 70's disco (especially donna summer) and workin on a dishwasher! it doesn't get any better!

bought this kd-15 last fall, just gettin to it. cleaning up sump and gonna paint with rustoleum to combat future rust before putting pump and motor back on. motor is good, tub is good, this one isn't as bad as some i've seen, rust wise.

used my drill and a wire brush to begin. used kerosine to clean it as i brushed. here come the pics!!!!

this is it before i started

water pressure switch port

also rusted and clogged up

i cleaned it up and opened it up. i have seen these in much worse shape than this one, and this machine was built in 1964 so it's about 45 years old! not bad!

outside

of sump looks much better, that's all for tonite on this part

notice one screw hole has rusted out and is very enlarged, when i put lower pump and new gasket on i will probably use some indian head gasket cement on it to help insure no leaks. or possibly silicone. anyone have any feedback on this? i used indian head on a kdc-17 and it has held up great and that sump was in worse shape than this one

this is where i am

going to stop for tonite. gotta step back and think a bit, decide what to do next. when i am done this bottom area will be painted with rustoleum and a new gasket installed when i re-mount lower pump/motor to sump. that will be in a couple weeks, gonna give it 3 or 4 coats of paint and let it dry thoroughly. i'm in no rush here.

thanks for lookin, hope you dishwasher guys enjoyed it and if anyone has any suggestions or ideas on what to do to rust prevent this sump i'm all ears!!!

pics to be continued
