Hi, I have the matching washer if you'd be interested. Brought it home from Mass. I'm just a bit south of you in NE Ind. Need to thin a few things out. Best Regards; Al :D |

The Maytag looks like a deluxe version of the one I grew up with. Have a good one, James |

Yah, I Know. This is how my shop gets filled up with cool vintage appliances that sit. I already have so much stuff. I let my love of the old stuff override my business sense sometimes. The dryer isn't going to the crusher, but the maytag will. So if anyone wants it, its CHEAP. But I really have to control my inventory, my shop is little. matt

Matt, Before sending the Maytag to the crusher, remove and keep some vital parts like switches, timer, buttons, motor, ect. Theses parts are QUICKLY becoming NLA and will never return again. Parts also take up very little space compared to a machine. You can sell these parts on ebay to people like me who are stock piling for the future. It looks like this machine is a 2 speed. If it has the original 201807 round motor, or is the square style motor made by GE (newer non GE motors are JUNK!!!!), then I'm interested in the motor as well as some other parts. Being a suds saver, someone here will probably be interested in those parts too. Non TOL vintage washers are kinda like average vintage cars; they're both worth more in parts than as a whole. Keep this in mind for the future of all vintage appliance that come through your shop. Most here are almost always looking for properly functioning parts for present or future use, whether used or new, but can't afford to ship an entire machine. Stocking and selling these parts will both turn a profit for your business and help others here with NLA parts. It's a win/win situation for everyone. |

Dan, you offer sound advice, that is what I will do, assuming I can get these machines from the present owners. Some people are under the "Antique Road Show" impression. anything old is worth a ton of money. I had a guy trying to peddle me a nice older whirlpool for $300. I just laughed. Except for wonderful people on sites like this. NO ONE wants old washers or dryers. I tried to pitch someone on the immaculate early '70's HG Kenmore dryer I have, told them I would warranty it for a year. They went with a newer one with 90 days. People around here just don't get it. Hopefully that will change, but I don't think so. They see the shiny new junk as some sort of status symbol. What the f***? You want a status symbol? Get a GMFR Flair. That will turn some heads. Oh well, I'll keep plugging along. But I really enjoy and appreciate all the advice, encouragement and good cheer I find on AW. Hooray for us! matt

Back in Jan. a woman here in the LA area posted a thread trying to get information on how to find the value of her uncles 1974 vintage, A207 washer and DG407 dryer (below). I e-mailed her privately trying to help with suggestions on value and where to try to sell. Appearently her uncle is one of those convinced there are worth a ton of money. The following week I was surfing around on Craigs list and came across her ad. I was very surprised to see the asking price was $2000!!! I e-mailed her again and politely told her there was no way ANYONE would pay that much for them. I saw her ad again the following week and saw she dropped the price to $1000. While they ARE very nice.... I don't know they are worth that much. IMHO. |
