Hi everyone ...

My 101P that I got through e-bay made it to little Foley, MN yesterday afternoon. Hooray! I'm bringing a digital camera home from work this weekend to get pictures to show you all but until then, I have a couple of questions.

There was still really "gunky", very smelly water in the tub (not much ... just resting on the bottom)and the tub is a disaster zone ... reminds one of the Kenmore we recently saw.

I pulled the drain hose off easily (the hose, however, was hard as a rock) and the pump was plugged with dirt, rust, and very awful water. I cleaned out the end of it, but know there is more in there. Robert suggested that I try to prime the pump with hot water ... should I still try to do that?

Should I put a half a bucket or so of hot water in the tub and try to get it to spin?

Also, I haven't plugged it in yet; it's a two-prong plug. Is that an issue?

Thanks for the help everyone!! :-) Make it a great day!

Hi Geoff,

Congratulations on the new arrival! If the pump is plugged, water might not be able to get in and prime it properly. I'm not sure whether you should take it apart or not; perhaps another member can advise you on this.

Also, it is definitely a good idea to replace the cord! I didn't think once about water-testing my Bendix until I changed the cord to a 3-prong, and I was a little nervous when Glenn plugged in the original Belden cord on his WO-65!!! Go to Lowe's or Ace Hardware and pick up a 120V 3-prong appliance cord and possibly some round "bullet" connectors if necessary.

My $0.02.

Thanks, Austin ... that 2-prong plug makes me nervous.

I was told these machines were grounded with the cold water intake hose; it had brass "roping" through it. Also, you could connect a wire from the back of the machine to your cold water pipe for grounding.

My mom got zapped pretty good in the early 1960's when she was using the same machine in the basement of our home; she was pretty upset. My dad made sure the entire house was grounded to the well after that!!

I've never changed a motor cord before; I suppose it can't be too hard. :-)

I wouldn't try running it until you have checked it out and cleaned out the water/sludge and gunk from the pump. Do you have any repair info for these AMP-style machines Geoff?

Hi Greg ... I do have service info for this machine. I was thinking I should probably remove both tubs and get to the resovoir area; at least I'd get all of the gunky water out that way and CLEAN the rust out of the tub.

I also thought I should turn it on its side and really vacuum, etc. underneath. I can also check the belt(s) that way and maybe try to clean the pump.

I must say that I am curious about the motor, however, I don't want to damage anything beyond repair by trying to turn it on.

This machine "looks" OK, but it had a lot of water and crap sitting in it for a while. It smelled really bad when I lifted the lid last night. I've left it open until I really get this baby cleaned up.

The only way I can see to get the water out of this tub is to turn the machine over on its side and mop it out with rags or remove the tubs completely and clean, clean, clean!!

Geoff
